Everyone looks forward to the day you come home and tell us the hilights of your experience there. We are happy to say that all is well and everyone is healthy. Thank the maker! Nana and Tata wrote to you so look for some more mail. We sent two packages last week. We're getting pretty good at eyeballing the load and picking the right size box for all of your goodies. The folks at the UPS Store know us by first name now and ask about you. You are certainly making the rounds even though you've never set eyes upon these people. Denise from DPS says hello and she thinks about you every day. They will gladly take you whenever you are ready. You've the experience they're looking for now. Not everyone gets to play cops and robbers in a foreign country. Stay cool when possible. Know that we love you and not a day goes by that we don't think about you. I'll get a letter out tomorrow. Sgt Ryan Quaal--I haven't left a message in a long time--so I figured I'd write my baby a message--I miss you and love you like you wouldn't believe. I hope you get to call again this week, I consider myself spoiled b/c I have got a call every week recently-- I know your too busy looking at those 100 most beutiful women in that Maxim I sent you, arent ya-they don't got nothing on me. Well it's off to Myrtle this week and there's no way it will be the same without you there--everytime I turn around I will be reminded of something romantic(or stupid)we did all last summer!! I will be thinking about you the whole time as I do every minute of the day. My cousin's graduation party was this past weekend and everybody was asking how you were and the infmaous question...no, not when your going to marry me--when you were coming home!! I of course said I don't know because I learned very early on not to believe the rumors!! I've already told my executive producer that Im going to take a month's leave of absence once you get back and if they don't like it, we'll there's other stations out there. Your my number one priority and this career stuff has gotten too much of my time these past 3 months. I love you sweetheart and I can't wait to start our lives together. This is for PFC Scott Dinse. It certainly was good to hear from you the other day, looking forward to when you come down here. Also looking forward to some of your pictures and we can see if they match some of the stuff I have. Just remember you are still in a war zone and don't get to comfortable. Cubs have been on a small losing streak, 4 games, but Kerry Wood threw a good game yesterday and they won against the Sox. Today they start a series with the Phillies. Know that I am praying for a safe return for you and all the boys with you. When you get the word when it is time to come home it will be fun to start a short-timers calendar like I did in the Nam, it makes the days go by faster when you can cross them off. To gramieight--your grandchildren are very lucky to have such a neat "gramie" You seem like a very compassionate and strong individual! I have heard from my son today 1/508/1 Bravo Co!! Yeah!! Thank you for the response I received per my request about the platoon over the weekend, I was getting worried. This is a great website, so my thanks to the webmaster for providing this for the families. It does help as we are all at home with a similar set of circumstances feeling anxious about the situation in Iraq. Here's to the families of the 173rd!!! SGT JOEL BEDNAR, HEy sexy! I made it here to Co. and it has been fun so far. We went hiking yesterday and when we came back down I got to throw Jake in the river:) Alicia and I were standing behind him drinking water and he wasn't paying attention, so we rushed him and threw him in. It was nice a cold! Sooo we all jumped in! Other than that we've seen a bit of the town, and much of the country side. Tonight I am supose to make diner, and have no clue what to make. I did need this trip I guess. I am also soooo glad I am not back in Italy right now. I read the things on this site and I realize we made a good choice for me to come home and stay here till you got back.That would not have been near as much fun as being here with my friends. When I think I get depressed I just get on here, and realize my life ROCKS!! hehe!I promise to never become one of those wives!!!! EVER!! Jake said he is planning on coming over, so we need to think of a time for them to visit and Derek too. Since we have to change the wedding date. Well, I am in town for supplies and I have to go get going. I found this library and now I have to run. It is closed from the 4-5 July, but I will catch you on the flip side babydoll! to all of the family and friends of the troops represented on this website, you are so faithful, and supportative. I am uplifted by the encouragements, and loving messages I see posted here. You are 1/2 the battle for our troops, knowing they are loved and missed and thought of. On a bad day, I can toggle through the messages and see prayers, loving thoughts that lift my own spirits. Attn: Sgt. Rene Corella Aco 2/503. Hi, still no news from you for almost 2 months... I hope you get my letters, they have to go over to the States and then to Iraq, that might take a lot of time... if they don't get lost. My week end was nice, we had a great time yesterday even though we just about all had a hard week and were kind of tired. I had some rest today (and trained a bit, parties aren't good for bellies!!)to be ready for tomorrow, I've got a meeting at 9:00, I'll come early to make sure I've got everything right in my marketing follow-up. Yep, all what you don't like!! I don't know when I'll be over with my studies but I'll probably leave that business not long after I'm done, I don't like the spirit there. Enough with work! Ben Keener 3plt C/1-508; Hi son, wow two nights in a row. Clay got home about noon from the aid station and took a nap. Then we walked up town to check out what was going on at the aid station/medical check point here in town. That Seal was Mike Morton that set the course record in 1997, 100 miles in 15hr 40min. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago. Anyway we watched a few runners come through. They looked darn good considering they were 60 miles into 100 mile run. The heat let up a little today, it was 91 this afternoon.Myndi picked up Ilea about 9:00 as Scott was on his way to get her for his company summer get together at Marine World. I did a whole lot of nothing today couldn't get motivated. Well its 11:00 pm and Clay just got back from the finish line. I'm sure few of the runners have made it through. Most are happy just to finish and if they're under 24 hours they're estatic. So that puts alot of them coming in much later. 24 hours will be 5:00 am. I love, going to say bye for now. Clay says there is a fire across the canyon always something. As I was saying. I love you, stay safe. MOM

Currently I am in Boston and packing up my things to move back to the midwest. Actually, as I write this my mom and dad are in the car on their way out here! Recently I got a job as a high school music teacher in St. Louis, Missouri and will start my new job in August. I am so excited about moving to St. Louis!!! It will definitely be a challenge being a high school teacher, but I'm looking forward to the adventure. Kathryn is moving to St. Louis, as well, and we are going to get an apartment together. Kathy just graduated from Greenville and is trying to find a job. She hasn't had any luck yet, but in time something will work out for her. Things are changing but, life is good and everybody's growing up. It hardly seems possible that you are old enough to be doing what you're doing and that the "little girls" are driving and in high school. Wow! In my mind you are still that squirlly little boy in your army get-up playing down in the creek behind grandma and grandpa's house. It's so cool that your dream has become your reality, Jeff. I have just talked with my husband and he says that the first actual date they have been told in a while that they will be home is September. Ben Keener;3plt c/1-508th; Well sweet son we all miss your smile and the sound of your voice. But a letter would do the job about now. I haven't had any since May 5th. Don't you think you could spare a few minutes for a letter to your MOM? Okay, I'm done with the lecture. After a long spell of really nice weather it has been in the 100's the last couple of days. Tomorrow is the Western States 100 mile run. Its going to be nasty in these canyons by tomorrow afternoon. You need to tell Capt Gavin Woody that the current course record is held by a Navy Seal. There was an article on the net about the Capt training in Iraq. Another crazy person like Clay that likes to run and the heat doesn't stop them. it was too hot standing in the shade while Ilea played at the park. Your old Mom is a whimp and not afraid to admit it. Clay is up at the aid station at Lyon Ridge tonight, I'm babysitting. Next weekend may go camping, I need to get away from the house. I love you son, stay safe and call or write when you can. Everyone asks about you including people at work. Adam Espenhover-1/508th--Hey Adam...ok, I have seen many more pictures of the 508th and did not see you....where are you!!??? I have to tell you this, it is so sad it is funny--quite awhile ago Ash had a younger customer, same age, and they were visiting and she asked Ash if she had brother/sisters etc...so of course Ash tells her she has an older brother who is in Iraq. Listen to this...she said, "Oh is he on vacation over there!!!" Ash said she couldn't believe her ears!! She replied, "In case you haven't heard, we have a war going on over there!" I thought you would get a chuckle out of that one!! Haven't heard from you for awhile, but heard you had called a friend so that is good news....just like hearing you are calling others or writing too. I know it has to be terribly hot for you now-I really am saying my prayers for you hon that you can get back to Italy soon...wish I could do something to make things better. To all those who are whining >>STOP! You have no concept of how easy this deployment has been. Many people have children and they chose to have them so it is time to deal with that! If you didn't want this life then you should not have made the choice to marry into it. The whining of all the wives on post brings the rest of us down. I wanted to speak plainly and outwardly here. Shut up already! The drama is not going to bring anyone home any sooner, but it will eventulally cause those of us who aren't bitching to smack the ones who are! You need to realize that you do not have it any worse than the next wife and you have no right to bring the rest of us down with your complaints. My mother use to say if you do not have anything good to say then keep it to yourself! You should thank your stars that you are not one of the women who will not be having her husband return to her at all! Think about those children who no longer have a father. Don't you at least feel a little stupid in your complaints when you see all that you have compared to others? I for one am not taking it any longer. If I hear one more complaint from another wife then I am going to reach out and smack her back to reality! Stop complaining and when your husband comes home ask him to either leave the Army for your sake or get a divorce! You will be one less drama queen the rest of us have to deal with!

I am going to go camping for the fourth and man it's a long drive! 18 hours worth at least! I don't understand why civilians chose to go to the field, but they are draging me with them. You should see what they packed..lap top, books, ect. I packed like any soldier would...cotton balls diped in vaseline, hygine products, clothes, and sleep unit. I don't think they plan on being very out doorsy in the out doors. Nancy said she'd feel better if I went, so I'm going. I saw on the news, some Italians soldiers were coming in Iraq to help for the "after"(ya right!)war. 1,500 soldiers are supposed to join, is that true?? Finaly Friday (that doesn't mean much to you...). This week was looooooong... You will be missing tomorrow for my: "b-day, end of the exams (4 this year!), sister being in Paris" party, but we'll have a great thought for you and all soldiers in iraq. My "brother in law" is also gone to Kosovo, but you are always in our thoughts. Things went fine at work this week, it was kinda hard to get back after one week off to study but everyone was nice, well, besides my boss assistant, that came up to me telling I should have left her my cell phone number, she just can't do things by herself... she was kind of aggressive but I didn't even get mad at her!!! There are more important things in life to get mad about right?!!! It's not my problem if she can't take any initiatives! Thank God the boss isn't like her!!! Better get going, I've got plenty to do. This prayer is in honor of PFC Jarod Markham 2nd/503rd..... Heavenly Father, Many of us come to you today with heavy hearts. We come to you with confusion, with frustration, with a terrible longing for our loved one who so proudly and so courageously carry out their duties as a soldier. We come to you asking for your guiding hand. Asking for you to humble our hearts and help us better understand this need for war. We pray for the safety of every American soldier who stands on foreign soil, but especially those of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. We pray that you comfort them in this time of need. We pray that you give them a sense of courage in their time of fear, a sense of direction in their time of doubt, and comfort and strength in their time of weakness. We also pray a selfish prayer today; the prayer of bringing them home soon. Lord, we also pray today that you will end this war soon.....that you will prick the hearts of the Iraqi people and somehow make them understand our purpose. We pray for peace. Lord we also pray a prayer of thanks. We are thankful that you have kept our loved ones safe thus far. We understand that there is always a reason and for those families who have lost loved ones we pray that you will bring them a peace in their hearts and help them to see and understand that reason. Give them comfort in their time of sorrow. Lord, we just ask that you give the family members of the soldiers strength. Strength to go on, to hope for a better tomorrow, to cope with the day to day burdens that we feel without our loved one beside us. We pray for the leaders of our country, our military, and our leaders in the field of battle. Lord as we end this prayer, we thank you for your son, and the huge sacrifice that was made. As an earthly father, I can not imagine loosing my son. So Lord please, bring all our soldiers home safely. Give us peace. In your son's name we end our prayer....Amen.... SPC PHILLIP HATTON B/2/503 Your mom has done a great job of keeping me up on whats going on with the Herd and at home. Seems like they had a great ride up on the Blue Ridge. My oldest son has a Harley Superglide. I kid him about it being an old mans bike. Going to try and hook up with your folks towards the end of July first of August. Did I read somewhere that you are back in the safe houses with A/C. If thats true it must be a releif from the heat. I've been contacted in the last couple of weeks by some of the guys from my old plt. We all spent some time on a hill with 81mm. I releived the Plt. Sgt. who was going home. Had 7 days to learn his job and there was no Lt. They sent some photos, man we were to young to be doing that kinda thing. I was 21 and seemed like an old man. So much for history. Do an airborne job but don't get crazy out there. Look foward to your return. Geve my heart-felt regards to the rest of the guys. It's great to be Airborne then, now and in the furture. I respectively disagree. Our loved ones are not fighting for our freedom of speech. We live in America, not Iraq. We have the freedom of speech. Our forefathers fought for that. They are fighting for Iraq's freedom-which somedays you wonder if they (Iraqis) understand why our loved ones are there and some have sacrificed their lives for their future freedoms. Sometimes it is hard to understand it myself anymore why they are there. I am not saying WE, the families and others, are not supporting our soldiers -WE HAVE SHOWN TREMENDOUS SUPPORT and naturally will do so...--but the politicians did not have their ducks in a row for the aftermath of this war--and our soldiers are having to do the dirty work that could had and should had been handled better from the get go. The soldiers are doing their duty proudly and I am proud to be American and proud of them. My thoughts expressed here does not mean I an not proud of the soldiers nor does it take away from the importance of their mission. I just think we need to stay vocal with our elected officials, not protesting, but as family, keeping the pressure on that a postwar plan and that getting our soldiers out of Iraq stays on the top agenda. Enough said.

Can anyone tell me what article SPC Johnson is referring to? Is it the report issued through SETAF Public Affairs titled, "Soldiers Attacked While On Operation Peninsula Strike"? If so, what did happen? Why is his unit upset with him? I know there are the stories behind the headlines, but this young man needs to be heard, what if it were your loved one? This website has been a wonderful link (if only psychological for some of us, who know our loved one is not receiving the e-mails), and I log on to it many times a day. I would like to thank the webmaster. But, I would like to state that in my opinion, some of the information that is communicated here can upset people needlessly, especially if it is not based on fact. We all want our loved ones home now, but until the Army decides to make it so, we just dont know when they will return. So, I guess I just asserted my right to freedom of speech, as does everyone who writes on this message board, and that is what our loved ones are fighting for us to be able to continue doing. The Presidential campaigning has started and the media has forgotten about our soldiers still in Iraq, all of them. We need to be asking when they are coming home. The only time we hear about our soldiers is when there is a fatality/killing and sometimes that is only a trailer on the headline news. The May 1st declaration of war over meant the embedded journalists could go home.It doesn't mean we won't be at this for years to come with our soldiers over there and there will still be people there who want to kill our soldiers. So we are still at war. And we need to be asking the candidates about the Veteran benefits. They cannot cut that when they cut the budget; our soldiers have earned that and they cannot change what they promised. The President is getting high ratings for his involvement in Iraq deeming the war a success. But now you hardly hear about what's next. Questions need to be asked for anyone running for the Presidential office. What is next? It's time our 173rd Airborne gets to come home.

Is anyone else frustrated that the news media has forgotten about all of our soldiers over in Iraq. The only time it gets on the TV news anymore is when there is a fatality/killing and sometimes that is only a trailer. They have to keep these soldiers out there in the news or the general public will easily forget and the pressure to get them home will be lessened--the presidential campaigning has started and the war is not over. When they are campaigning and making all of the promises we need to be asking about when our soldiers are coming home and about the Veteran benefits as well. Beck is tied up on campus right now with a dorm full of kids for a week. She'll be free Sunday evening and it's 'gramma-bound' for her! So, you see? The more things change, the more they stay the same! One thing is missing: you! But there's a light at the end of the tunnel now. The biggest part of the time spent is behind you. SGT JOEL BEDNAR, Hey Sexy! Well, the plans for having our wedding ceremony in November is probably not going to work out. The longer they screw with your return date the longer we have to wait to order the sationary and all. I have my dress, veil, Tiara, ect. so that is done. I wanted to help the girls know when they should order their dresses by. I just picked by the end of July as a good esitmate. Everyone LOVES the color and all! Of course I have awesome taste! Sgt. Andrew Shannon, Dad and I are back from Galveston now. I had a show there for the Harris County Adult Education Dept and the Junior College System. It went really well. The teachers were all interested and attentive but the weather was oppressive! I'll bet you could teach us a thing or two about oppressive weather huh! I wonder what the temp is there today - I find it very interesting that the media talked incessently about how hot it was in Iraq when all those hot shot news anchors were there but now we hear nothing about it. You said you have lost weight is that because of all work, the food, or the lack of booze? I'm on a diet as usual some things never change. Grandma was cussing the war again she wants you home now!!! I JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO RESPONDED. I DIDNT EXPECT A RESPONSE AND I APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT. I STILL HAVE MONTHS OF THERAPY BUT THE WALTER REED STAFF IS THE BEST. I GUESS I PISSED SOME PEOPLE IN MY UNIT OFF BUT I DONT CARE. NOBODY ASKED MY SIDE OF THE STORY. IM HERE WITH SPC HASSININE AND WE READ THAT ARTICLE AND IT JUST FILLED US WITH SO MUCH ANGER. I JUST HOPE THAT MY PLATOON SGT UNDERSTANDS HE SHOULD BE PROUD HIS 31U REMEMBERED HIS TRAINING AND AIDED IN THE RESCUE OF HIS FELLOW SOLDIERS ALL WHILE HE HAD 4 BULLET WOUNDS. ATTN: PFC MIKE VOLPE 173 - 2/503 Hi Guy! I hope all is going well for you. I hope some snail mail is beginning to roll in for you. Part III in the "cat tore up my puzzle of a cat" trilogy - the cause. Nope it wasn't pure mischeif. NOr was it retaliation (which would be uncharacteristic for any of mine) for me holding them down and shaving their tummies for the summer. Here's how it played out: There I sit in the floor picking these pices up like an archeologist - cuz I know that how they are scattered is relatively how the dadgummed thing goes back together. There were some other already glued puzzles sitting underneath this unglued one. After lifting them up a few times to see if any of the stray pieces got knocked underneath them, that familiar "something in here is dead and rotting" smell reaches my nose. ALRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! Ya Idgits! I pull the other puzzles out and there sandwiched b/t 2 of them is a little lizard! CRAZY CATS!!!!!! So that is why my puzzle got undone. Brought it in to play with and lost control of their own fun. You'd think they could just catch a snack and be happy rather than trying to bring their toys inside for me to find later!!!!!! LOL Aaaahhhhh the joys of pet ownership. Can't live w/o 'em, but a few habits could go and not be missed. :) I hope that put a smile on your face. It is beautiful in Cali. today, I have been working in the garden, everything is in full bloom, even the squash and tomatoes... they will be ready when you get here!
