Happy Holidays to All Sky Soldiers

1- The Holiday season will soon be upon us and thoughts of family and friends arrive. Let us take this time to be thankful for all the blessings in life we have. Also, it is a good time to communicate with our Brother Sky Soldiers that we care about them. Why not send them a card or package. One way to do this is through www.Parapacks.com but any way that get the word to the Sky Soldiers that they are appreciated is good. Another way is to post a Christmas greeting on 173rdAirborne.com by clicking here! Please reach out to our Airborne Brothers (& Sisters).

2- Another Sky Soldier is in the process of having his book considered for the Screen, David Fitz-Enz’s author of, “Why a Soldier” writes “…  is looking good for a television series.  We had lunch in Lake Placid, at Columbia TriStar Pictures (Sony) expense, with VP.  He said he picked up the book at the Dulles Airport and read it on the way to California.  He sees it as a replacement for MASH.  It will feature the Army combat photo platoon of the 173rd as they document the war. He likes it because, as photographers, the guys got into every element of the Brigade and so it is not just focused on the infantry, artillery or aviation.  As he said, "it travels making room for continual change,---keeps it fresh. I hope it works.  Take a look at the reviews on www.Amazon.com.” Please if you read the book,  go to www.amazon.com and post a comment. Give him your support. Just think a MASH series about the HERD… who gets to play Klinger?

3- Don’t forget that [G.K. Stesiak] has an agent in California who is trying to get Gerry's book turned into a movie. It is a story about a line medic in the 173d Airborne. So I ask all Sky Soldiers that have read the book and liked it to please go to www.amazon.com and look up the book RAPTOR’S PREY by G.K. Stesiak and post a comment on how well you like it. It seems that Hollywood uses the comments posted about the book in their decision process about turning print into the Big Screen. I personally think it about time we had some movies about Sky Soldiers. So if you get time drop a comment at www.amazon.com .

4- The HERDPX (www.herdpx.com)  is undergoing a redesign and during this time the on-line shopping kart is not fully installed yet so please be patient. You can still get items by E-mailing VIC at HERDPX@AOL.COM.

5- Don C. Halls book “I Served” is about a 173d Sky Soldier that goes on to join a LRRP team. Don did a film documentary about his LRRP unit called SILENT VICTORY that has won numerous awards. He writes, “I now have a first draft script that will be about my time in the 173d. I am now looking for investors to put together a feature film. I do have some investors and it would be nice to have the men from the Society involved”. Contact Don at his web site; http://www.i-served.com .

6. New Online Bulletin Boards to post you unit’s news (Click here and go to the bottom of the center column). Right now I just have the 4 Battalions up but will add other units later.

7. The best Soldiers Song Album I ever hear is located at www.SoldiersSongs.com . I got one for Christmas last year and love it. I especially love Christmas in the trenches. It covers all wars from WWI to Vietnam. Sung by an Airborne Vietnam Vet.

8- Veterans Day at the Wall in Washington D.C. was kind of a bust. The wind picked up to 50 mile gust at times and the cold rain surely didn’t help. The usual crowd was there but it is always good to see the Brothers again.

9- Recently I have come across MORE sites where various States award veterans (Past and present) State medals and education grants for their service. Please see the bottom of the left hand column at; http://www.173rdairborne.com/menu.htm . If you know of any other States that offer similar services to vets please share it, so I can pass it on!

10- See ya in Reno!

11- Please feel free to pass this newsletter onto those who may be interested.

The site (173rdAirborne.com) and this newsletter is in no away affiliated with the 173d Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy or the Society of the 173d Airborne Brigade. It is however just what it says...dedicated to all Sky Soldiers by honoring the past, supporting the present and encouraging the future. We all are Brothers (& Sisters), whether we served in Okinawa, Vietnam, Ft. Campbell or Italy.
