4. Christmas is just around the corner! A 173rd soldier's wife in Italy is coordinating an effort to put together Christmas stockings and goodies to send to the soldiers. She needs the following items: Christmas cards, Christmas stockings-any kind, candy canes, chocolates, deodorant, lotions, shaving cream, hand sanitizer, a disposable camera, cellophane Christmas decorated bags (for the cookies to be included) pens, granola bars, breathe mints, gum, a magazine, power bars...... A group of wives is going to be baking cookies, and they need as many chocolate chips and walnuts as they can get...(they will be vacuum sealed and shipped from Italy so they shouldn't melt too bad). Which makes this endeavor even more difficult is that being in Italy there is a lack of support from those in the states for our guys. We are only able to send as many as we can on our own. 9. New Montgomery GI Bill If you are qualified for the "NEW" MGIB (Categories 1 and 4) and you have completed more than three years active duty, your total benefits will be $35,460 in October 2003. This sum is reached by multiplying the current FY maximum benefit ($985) by 36 (the number of portions or months in your account). Don't let the term "months" confuse you -- months only correlate with the calendar for full-time academic (non-active duty) students.

New APO Zips for Soldiers in Iraq The U.S. Military Postal Service has assigned new geographic zip codes for units and personnel serving in Iraq, according to Army News Service, However, the APO code number for the 173d Airborne Brigade will remain the same.
