ATTN: JEFF KUPISCH 2/503 Hey Babe, hope you had a good day today. I worked from 6 this morning until 2:30 this afternoon. We were swamped. I continuosly made coffee from 6 until 12, then I finally got a break. I poured steamed milk across my arm for the first time today. Of course it was an accident, and luckily it was only at 160 degrees. So it didn't blister or anything, but it did scare the crap out of me. So not much is really going on around here. I might go out with Julie (my friend from highschool that went to prom with us) later on tonight if she calls me back. So I was thinking about my job and your job and the perks of both and I figured out that a perk to your job of being in the army and in Iraq is that you don't have to greet people with a smile. Although this may sound stupid, I started thinking about this because of a few customers that I had that I wanted to jump across counter and strangle. However, I remained calm and greeted them with a smile and was polite to them. Just to let you know, last summer I won a trip to the Bahamas. Of course its not completely free, but its still pretty cheap, and its for 2 people. So if its at all possible I want you to go with me whenever you get to come home sometime. I figured we could lay on the beach and drink tropical drinks with umbrellas in them. So keep that in mind, maybe its something you can look forward to. Well thats about all I have for today. My dad says hello. You are always in my thoughts and of course always in my prayers. Talk to you tomorrow. Love - Ash

SPC PHILLIP HATTON ~ 3rd PLT, B2/503 ~ Hey Phillip..... just wanted you to remind you that you are loved and missed! Just talked to the Mayor.... he told me that the flags were going up for each of our local soldiers in Iraq. And, they're going to plant a tree in honor of each of you with a marker (hopefully with all your names on it) to remind us...and you guys....that we're proud of you and the sacrifices you're making for our freedom! Everything's quiet on the homefront; mom's hanging right in there and wants to hear about any news we get from you. You'll never believe your little nephew! He has so many of your characteristics--but then, so does Sydney. She rode off the sidewalk with her car yesterday and I couldn't help but snicker. Remember how you hated that? Well, she was totally put out with me and made me apologize to her without laughing. It took two or three times before I could satisfactorily say "I'm sorry" with a straight face. The last two days, she's been a stray cat! Need I tell you what that's like? Milk in a dish on the floor... for starters!!!!! But her favorite is being a horse. She's got it down pat, too! The horses across the street run when they hear her.... she sounds just like them. Of course, the battle between gramma's dog and Syd will never cease. I looked out the window to see Toke leashed to Syd's little car--moving car--and Tokey's all fours were dug into the sidewalk in resistence. We've all concluded from whom she gets that side of her personality!!!!!!! I love you! You're our pride and joy. Keep your head screwed on straight and remember that we're all waiting for you! Always..... "Mom"

SPC KRISTOPHER KNIGHT. Jacenya and I went to Toys R Us, she purchased a vet kit with a small purple puppy, a doll, a book and a video. She was really happy and very proud of her 2 awards at school. Just another thing in your life to be proud of. Tell B I pray for you, him and the rest of the 173rd. Thanks for being such a SUPER son. You all are the finest, bravest, and best looking the Army has. Know that the folks in Palm Beach County REALLY appreciate what you are all doing LYMTS

Spc. Phillip Hatton - Hey little buddy! Just wanted to take a minute to say hello. Hope you are doing ok and things have settled down for you guys. The past 2 weeks have been pretty crazy! That's why I haven't gotten a letter out in a few days. I'm working on one right now. I'll send it out Monday. Today was closing day for the teachers. We decided to wrap things up today (Saturday) instead of going back in Monday. I left Sydney sleeping with her dad and took Austin with me. By the way, he has his first tooth! We found it today. Anyway, all the other teachers commented on how much he looks like you and dad. They were calling him 'little Gordon'. So many of them said that he looks like you when you were a baby. I got his pictures in today and I'll be sending you some so you can be the judge. You'll love his little chubby cheeks! Still not a whole lot going on around here. We went to graduation last night. I was surprised because there did not seem to be very many there. Dad and Sydney went to a horse show this evening and James is mowing. I saw Brandi at the high school last night and she said that she had gotten a phone call from you!! We were all so excited that you got to call home! We'll be sending you some more phone cards. I just want you to know that we are thinking of you every minute of every day and anxiously waiting for you to come home. Sydney keeps asking when Uncle Phillip is going to get to come home from Iraq. She is going to be wild when she sees you. Everyone here says to tell you hello and they are thinking of you. Take care of yourself. I love you. Your VERY PROUD Big Sister, Mindy

Jeff K. and the 173rd, We are so proud of all of you men and women for what you are doing in Iraq. We are praying daily for a hedge of protection and a covering for you. Remember there are more people in the USA that are really proud of you than what the news media will ever display. I teach 2nd and 3rd graders at church on Wednesday night and each of them are praying for the 173rd as well as all the soldiers. They say continue to keep up the good work and God Bless you!! You may be a long ways from home but you are close to our hearts! God Bless and protect you. Becky

ATTN: JEFF KUPISCH 2/503 Hello Again. Its only been like 3 hours since my last posting but I just have more that I want to tell you about, and its friday night and I'm tired of working on my accounting hw. So I start summer school on Monday. I'm taking Financial Accounting at the University of St. Thomas in downtown Houston. I go two nights a week from 5:30 to 9:30 for about a month. I've decided to change majors again. I'm thinking of switching to Finance or Entreprenurial Management. I've spent the last semester thinking during my classes that I just can't see myself as a Speech Pathologist. I would basically be a teacher, not that there is anything wrong with being a teacher, I just can't see myself as one and want to make more money than that. I've also always wanted to be a boss. So next semester I am taking all business classes to decide what I want to do with my life. I should still graduate on time though. There still aren't any guys in my life. I hung out with that guy Mitko (the one from Bulgaria that I referee with) on and off during the semester, but were not serious or anything. I might go visit him in Bulgaria at the end of July or the first part of August just to go over to Europe. It would be one of the cheapest trips I ever made because he has a house over there and would pay for everything. Not that I'm mooching off of him, I always offer to pay but he never lets me, so hey why fight him. Besides, everything is pretty cheap over there. I was thinking if you are back in Italy by then I will go there too! Of course that requires me saving even more money, but I guess your worth it. :o) I might be getting another job at a compression company in the accounting department. If so I'll probably just work at starbucks on the weekends. This job would pay almost twice as much as Starbucks and could be considered an internship, so I really can't pass it up. I would also get 40 hours a week. At Starbucks I only get an average of 25 a week. Lady got 2 new kittens for mothers day. I really haven't seen her any since I've been home though. I started working on my tan today. I was waiting since I have this cast on my hand, but it was so sunny outside today that I just couldn't resist. Then after ten minutes I got too hot and decided to walk in the pool with my arms above my head. I walked in to point where the water hit my armpits (just to give you a mental picture of me in pool with a my arms above my head and a purple cast on my arm). My mom and grammy laughed at me. So I have a bunch of other stuff to tell but I'll probably tell you in the letter I send you. I'll keep my postings to general stuff and save all my specific stories for the letter. Your mom told me that Jason had told her that MRE's have a constipating agent in them. I thought that was pretty funny. Sucks for you though, haha, just kidding. I couldn't resist telling you that. Well its 10:45 and I have to get up by 5:15 so I can be at work by 6am. I have to do my duty of serving people there coffee. I've realized people drink way too much coffee these days. There are some people that I see twice a day when I'm at work. Oh well its there money. Ok, I still miss you a lot and pray for you every night. I'll probably post another message for you tomorrow, maybe even two! You may even get sick of hearing from me on this board by the time you get to leave. Love always - Ash

PV2 Nick Deaconson C Co. 2/503rd- Hey there, how are things with you?.Guess what? I'm finally CCHS alumni as of...the day before yesterday!weew.I "pulled a Nick" and didn't send out as many graduation invitations as I should have.hehe.I'm having my graduation party next week so hopefully I'll get my college funding then.It was very liberating to say the least. We had Project Grad right after it.It was such a kick. I have many pictures and many many tapes of badly sung kareoke songs to remind me of my high school years.I have to let you listen to the one tape of me and Emily singing "Sweet Home Alabama"...I have nothing further to say about it, you'll just have to hear it. I hope you'll be coming home soon, there are going to be like 3 TEC reunions this summer. They just started up a summer TEC so there's that reunion and then P.T. and Mal set two up for the 12th I think and the other one is on your birthday, again!Hopefully you'll get to attend this time.Well i just wanted to drop you a line, make sure you know that I'm still thinking about you. I hope you've been getting my letters just fine..I'll try and write you a real letter in a couple of days.Take care of yourself out there...miss you.-Kat

ATTENTION JEFF KUPISCH!!!!!! 2/503 Hi! I finally talked to your mom and found out how I could send you a message. I also sent you a package today (5/30/03) so hopefully it won't take too long to get to you. Make sure you look on the inside of the box because I taped an envelope full of pictures there. Wow, I have so much to tell you since we haven't talked in so long I don't even know where to start. I'm going to send you another package with a really long letter so that i can make sure you're completely filled in on whats happening in my overly exciting life. Ok so I guess I will just start with all of the general stuff. I ended the semester with 3 A's and a B. I am happy with a 3.75 for the semester but (there's always a but with me and my grades) I was slightly dissapointed with my one B because I only needed an 81 on my final to keep an A and then my teacher went and made my final extra hard and I made a 74 instead. So I was only 7 points away from a 4.0. Oh well life goes on. So I'm home for the summer. After applying at about 30 different places for a summer job I finally got hired at the Starbucks in the Randall's by my house (Barker Cypress and 290). Yes, I am a Barista (the official tital of a starbucks coffee maker). Shortly after I started I realized I have been spoiled when it comes to jobs. Oh before I continue this story I have to tell you something else. At the end of the semester I was playing sand volleyball at school and I set the ball and hurt my hand. After 2 weeks of my left thumb hurting I finally went to the doctor and he said that I had torn a ligament in my thumb. To fix this they put me in a hard cast for three weeks. I still have it on, but get it off on tuesday (6/2/03). Then I get to wear a removable plastic brace on my thumb for 3 more weeks. Anyways, back to the original story. So here I am working for starbucks with a cast on my left hand, completely unable to use my thumb. Its not really hard to work with one and a half hands, but its not easy. So my first night that I had to close the store by myself I had to mop and pick up these huge plastic floor mats to be cleaned, and do a whole bunch of other stuff. This whole process usually takes 30 minutes. We close at at 8pm so a normal employee would get to leave by 830pm. Well at 1015pm I was still there and crying behind the counter because I was so frustrated. I think I really freaked this guy out who had helped me earlier in the day when he saw me crying. So the point of the story is I am definitely not used to hard labor (mopping and cleaning mats). I think that was the first time I ever mopped a floor. I know your probably confused at some parts of this story and think I'm pretty wimpy but you have to remember I only have one good hand and have been spoiled when it comes to cleaning. Ok so this message is long enough, I will get on tomorrow and continue to fill you in. My mom says hello. I MISS YOU SO MUCH and CANT WAIT TO SEE YOU when you come home. Stay safe. Love, Ashley

Hi ADAM ESPENHOVER--How's it going? I haven't been on this message board for awhile because I have been so busy at work. I enrolled in a class at DMACC and I have to go directly to class after work so I don't have much time to play around on the computer. We had a nice memorial day weekend--just worked in the yard and kept it pretty low key. Scott wanted to go camping this weekend but I didn't want to so he will probably spend the weekend pouting. It is so unbelievably windy today that it didn't even sound appealing to me. I am going to a concert with some friends on Sunday so we would have to get back early Sunday anyway. See how I'm trying to justify it?? I hope you can find time to write or call home soon--it's too bad you don't have access to send a quick e-mail message. That would brighten everyone's day. Hopefully you are getting the messages posted here. Keep your spirits up and remember that you are all loved, missed and supported by your friends and families back here. Take care and stay safe. Love, Diane.

CAPTAIN WILL HANSEN~~~1-508TH~~~173RD AIRBORNE~~~ Hello love of my life. Today is a good day gone GREAT, since when I arrived home there was a letter from you. Thank you!!! Your letters are better than ice cream :) I like the "medical care" stationary. You could have started a money making trend with this you know. Today the sun came out after 5 days of heavy rains and thunderstorms. Tonight I'm headed to Kristina and Caroline's for dinner, they want to show me some stuff to do while they are away on their European summer adventure. I'm going to spend one night a week out at their place to do a few things and keep their anti-social cats company. But I've just been informed that I won't have pool privelages - oh, well. Well, I just wanted to say hello to you and let you know I'm still thinking about you and us 24 HOURS A DAY! I read on this site today where someone pointed out "There's no distance in teh spirit" ~ I like that. I pray for your safety, well-being, and quick return to Italy. Hats off to you and all of the other brave men and women that are working for our freedom. HUGS AND KISSES TO YOU MY DEAR!!! HEATHER

PFC CALEB DIECKMAN C/1-508: Hey baby, how is your day going today? Mine is very stressful...for real! Classes just started so all these students are calling in trying to get in courses that have been full for months! I am so tired today and am sick of all the phone calls. You know me, trying to be nice but feeling rude and awful! I am so tired and it is such a nice day here. The the sun is shining and the wind is blowing kind of hard. I colored my hair again. This time I went back to my natural so I look totally different. I will try and get a more current picture out to you as soon as I can. You should be getting a picture of me getting my diploma pretty soon. I have a double chin so don't laugh. I miss you honey, terribly. Sorry I haven't wrote to you in a couple of days but work has been so hectic lately that all I do when I go home is lay down on the couch and get sucked in because it is so comfortable. I love you and can't wait to see you again. All my love, Molly.

TO PFC JAROD MARKHAM 2nd/503rd Jarod, Just a note to tell you that I am going to see "The Italian Job" tonight. I will check it out and see if it is worth purchasing on DVD when it is available. I think it will be great..will be looking for areas of Italy close to you.....it has one of the lead actors from "The Transporter"....also Mini Cooper car chase with some great stunts....also 2Fast 2Furious comes out next week.....will check it out too...I know all the places where it was filmed.....the bridge stunt was there next to South Beach where we went last year...some on the bridges to the Keys......one of the houses is here in Fort Lauderdale.....remember when you and I went to see Fast and the Furious? Remember you drag racing me out on the country stretch of Sorrell's Chapel, your Camaro against my bike?.....I know...you blew me away....(this bike I am getting next though is a different story.....will have a rematch) I am looking at the Honda ST 1300 and the Suzuki 1000 VStrom.....the Suzuki is $4000 bucks cheaper so I am greatly leaning toward it instead of the Honda although the Honda has some nice gadgets......The Nighthawk will probably have to do me for a while though.....this dream will not come about for several months....just looking now....Hope all is well there or as well as can be.....sent you another care package yesterday which has hard candy in it for the children....Just wanted to tell you that I love you and miss you......Will send another message this weekend...... SGT JOEL BEDNAR....My Babydoll! How are things going in the world's largest litter box:) I can't believe the conditions you described. I thought Upton Sinclair made me gag! I can't wait to see your beautiful face, and hold you in my arms where you belong again. Cesar cracked us all up at his game last night. I video taped it and ran it off on a tape for you! He is so funny, but I don't see him having a future in baseball by any means. Everyone showed up to watch him play, so that was great! His next game is Monday. Actually he plays every Monday and Thursday for a month. Sara wrote me again, and she is doing great. She said that she gets highly annoyed by the males in her training company, because they all fall out of runs and rucks. She said they are 90 times worse than most of the females. She also said it's hot as sin there, and she misses a good cooked meal. Maunel, Norma and Enrico send their love and prayers...actually they to tell you "Salute mi filio Joel"- Norma, and Manuel said in English to tell his American brother to come home soon, that you forever now stay in Italy! I miss them a lot, and they miss us even more. Norma goes between her happy raves to her crying when I have to get off the phone. They told me to bring their Cesar home right now, becuase everyday Norma's heart breaks when he is gone. I love our Italain family:) Ok I have to get outta here, because I have to go to work...arghhh! Next week and for two weeks I may be very busy working with Dale at the CO-OP. I don't really have a clue as to what the purpose of my job is, but I don't mind...I just work:) Dale takes advantage of the fact that I was Army sometimes, and forgets that I don't really care for hard labor:) hehe! He also asked how you were doing, and to tell you to be careful over there. He teased that I would be the one to go join the WO to be able to go over there..then sneak off to find you! You know me babydoll...I would! Since you won't let me be a mercenary! Darn you:) I love you Whole Bunchies! hey Troy Boy also wrote you an email! I sent it to you. ~~~~~~~Princess~~~~~~~~~

ATTN: JEFFREY KUPISCH - I heard your pool is dirty, so I stopped by Pools & Spas to get my pool supplies & explained your Company's dilemna with the poo water. I asked if they would ship you guys some pool chemicals to keep your pool clean - they said NO, but are thinking about it!!! They loved the idea of you guys getting the pool open & functioning! I got the pool cleared up all b y myself!! Christian put in the ponds., I have free mulch coming to lay around it in the seating area, so.....hopefully by the time you get home, I';ll have it all together & the flowers will be blooming for you!! I know how you love to walk through the yard & see all the gardens in bloom. Too bad I could never get any of my kids to enjoy weeding! :0( I don't even enjoy it!! I've found some unique new items to add to my garden collection - ringer washers filled with flowers & vines, 1930's pedestal sink aa a waterfall into the ponds & the hunt goes on....always!! I brings me peace to work in the gardens - close to God - quiet still waters of reflection on life & where God has me going, surrounded by the amazing beauty of the flowers that He created. A garden brings spiritual renewal...I see it as creating something that all can come & be renewed as they sit, relax, meditate or pray. Ahhhhhhh! Enough of that! Jason did not pass his PT - he takes it again in 2 weeks. Pray for him! Jessica has her lifeguard test today. Jerry is coming over today to mow the grass & fix my arbor that fell in Mother's Day wind storm. Marilyn will tutor Jessica for finals. Uncle Dan tore his shoulder rotary cuff (?) in the other shoulder & is off work. He & Aunt Lady need much prayer for healing & encouragement. I'd love for Graham to come here for a month & give them a break. Lizzy will go to Peoria if she doesn't go to Texas. And that's about all the news I can think of, except.... WHO IS PJENNIFER that wrote to you from our street???? That's the MYSTERY of the WEEK! If you figure it out - clue Jess & I in because we are definitely CLUELESS!! (as usual) Well, my dearest F.B.B., take care of yourself...Always stay within the boundaries where God's Love can reach you & bless you. Pray often & keep those spiritual ears open for promptings in the Spirit for discernment & protection. Speak & pray Psalms 91 daily with us - there's no distance in the Spirit!! We look forward to having our own personal HERO @ home, very soon!! I'll keep working on the Pool Company unless you can locate the POOL chemicals there - keep me posted, son. I love you more than words can express & miss you even more.... I know it's hard on you, stuck in what you call "Paradise" - but it'll be over sooner than you think. Keep your mind focused & your hands busy....(preferably by writing letters!) We'll see you SOON! Keep the Faith! 4th of July!! God is Lord of even the Army!! Love, Mom

SGT ANDREW M. SHANNON, C. COMP.1ST 508 173RD AIRBORNE Love of mine I need you badly!!! I think I chewed my tonsils!!! The "SUPER SMART" boss you can find on earth came back just to cover us all with shit!! He said to me that he's glad about the fact of not having studied, cause the more one studies the more fucked up he becomes: in few words he told me that I'm ignorant!!! I swear to God that I had my tongue ready for the answer but that I hold it back with all my strength!!! He accused me to help the firm going bankrupt! My godness garce!!!! Where the hell have I ended up working?? I think he's doing all that to get rid of me, but no fucking way I'm going to step back!!! If he wants to fire me, well he has to grab his nuts and tell it in front of me, no way I'm going to help him going away first! If only I could do the job I was hired for!!!! You see, I keep staying here cause I need the money and plus it helps me waiting for your coming back!! Sorry, I need to go and have a smoke!! I know it's bad for my health, but believe me love of my life, holding my tongue was on of the hardest things I've ever experienced!! I should blame on the education my marvellous parents gave me. I bet my mom would have kicked his ass very badly at the second word spoken!! Not to talk about my dad! You saw his hands!!!! I love you so much and I NEED YOU BACK NOW!!!!! TO PFC JAROD MARKHAM 2nd/503rd.... Jarod, Goodmorning Son or should I say afternoon for you. I certainly hope this writing finds your spirits high. As one writer put it yesterday, you are more than half way there, we hope and pray. Everyone sends their love, prayers, and support to you and your entire unit. God is with you all and is protecting you each and every day. You must keep your head up and keep pushing just when you think you don't have any energy left to push. Reach down deep inside and pull up some of that strength that I have so often seen. You are my Hero and I am so proud. Just think, after this, you will accomplish any task placed before you with ease.....we continue to pray that the worst is over and that you will be coming home soon. God has the power to change those rumors to next week if he so desires. It is his plan, just remember that when times get hard. I love you my son and miss you each and every day. Just when I think it may get easier, it does not. I'm certain that you wish to be back 1000 times more!! Hang in there and don't forget the power of prayer. On a lighter note....Allie has been going to the farm with Margaret lately and selecting sheep for the FFA show. She has really enjoyed being with Margaret. They are best of friends now....I know that is the worst nighmare you could have is that your sister and girlfriend are best friends....you don't have a chance now...ha......I am mailing you some photos of this past weekend, you should receive them in a couple of weeks, hopefully..... Hi Richie Farquhar how are things in Iraq tonight? Your mom sent us the letter you sent to the Times Herald...nice job!! Thanks for all you are doing over there. You were loved much before you enlisted and you are loved more every day by this big clan of ours!! Funny how you can miss someone you hardly ever see anyway but it sure seems odd that you are so far away from us. I suppose you heard the news that your cousin Michael and his wife are expecting identical twins...Aunt Wendy is eccstatic. Scott and his wife Michelle are expecting a new baby in November too. The group continues to grow :) I was thinking about sending you a package but it seems you have too much stuff to carry around now so let me know when you start running low and it will be my turn to ship a box. Hope you make it back to Italy in time for the Metallica concert. Take care nephew and know you are loved and prayed for every day. Your name is still in the window downtown in Onaway and your ribbons are on the Freedom Tree at the edge of town...not just Port Huron knows you are over there doing your duty for us. To the 174rd AIRBORNE and my most cherished nephew SPC Phillip Hatton YOU GUYS ARE LOVED!!!!!!!!! We miss you more than you will ever know. I believe you all stay so busy that at times, itis difficult for you to realize from one day to the next, however, we count the days, pray and wait patiently for (all of you) to return safely. We mourn when we hear of your difficulties and losses. My prayers are with you. God Bless YOU all for being our HEROs and doing your duty to serve our county and fight for our protection. We know that you are the GREATEST and even though you get tired and hot and "stinky" you still get up and "go for it." That is a true SOLDIER in every sense of the word. Phillip, my neighbor is an old man that was supposed to die with cancer about 2 years ago. He prayed that God would give him a few more years. He was in bed dying. I couldn't believe it when I saw him out in the yard mowing the grass. He calls Eric (Greg), Eric just answers him like that is his name. LOL. Anyway, I gave him one of the buttons that Mindy made with your picture on it. It was a keychain. He took it to his senior citizens prayer session and they are all praying for all of you guys. When you get them old timers praying you've got power. Love you much Buddy. Hang in and do your best to survive and make your buddies laugh. You can do that. Herbie says "how the heck are ya?" I guess he is still in Attica. LOL.

He says he misses you even more with football getting ready to start especially since Tampa beat Raiders in the bowl. Be safe, and we can't wait to see you. Hang in there! We love you and miss you.

PFC DAVID CROSS- CHARLIE CO. 1ST/508TH --Hey sweetie! How are ya doing? I just wanted to write you before I go to sleep..I hope I get to talk to you this weekend! It would be great!!! I miss you so much! I had to go try on my bridesmaid dress tonight for Lindsay's wedding. It's really pretty. The only bad thing is that I had to pay for it...but I could find somewhere else to wear it, I guess. Anyway, I will send you out a letter tomorrow or Saturday. I get paid next week and I will mail you out a care package--either two small ones or a big one! That way it will make up for not mailing you one out this week. I'm sorry! Well, I love you! And I miss you.... love, stephanie

To Paul Wiseman, 74th LRS- just want you to know how much you are missed and loved by your entire family. A little news from Utah - Bub had to come back from Alaska for hernia surgery and your grandma is taking care of him - he's about ready for a breakdown, poor baby. I spent 5 days with your cousin Kelsey in San Francisco with her volleyball team as a chaperone. Fun but exhausting, I don't do well baby setting a bunch of teenage girls - I've been drinking heavily ever since I got home - ha! ha! So very sad I missed your phone call, could just barely make out your precious voice on the audix machine at work and couldn't hear any of the message. Record breaking heat here - 100 yesterday - too hot, too early but it made me think of what you have to endure over there with the heat and running around in your uniform carrying around a big gun. I respect you so much for sacrificing so much for America. You are a great son, a great soldier and I am so proud of you. Much love, mom

This is for PFC Scott Dinse. Your Mom said she heard from you this week and things arae going well. She has sent several boxes and I know she has enclosed some books for you. If you get a chance let her know when they come. Aunt Susie is putting something together as well, she is waiting for Uncle Bob and Brad to add a letter for you as well. Here it is the end of May and the Cubs have not folded yet, I am truly amazed. I don't get to see as many games as I would like but enough to know they have a pretty doggone good pitching staff. The rest of the team is a bit weak, but who knows. The way this year is flying by pretty soon we will be ready for the Bears and Kordell to suit it up, I can't wait. I know, from experience, that when things are quiet you have a tendency to let your guard down, but I caution you to always remember you are still in war zone and keep your game face on. Be careful and take care. Love, Dad. (ps. I am not sure if your are getting any of these but it feels good to post them)

To all those who are posting messages to my friend Kelli. She has decided to take her study to another post, but she has read the messages posted to her on this site, as have I. I particularly enjoyed reading the one from the woman who spelled it out in the terms of finance, etc. I did hand Kelli a copy of the pay scale,as well as a list of the benifits recieved by the military dependents. I am also a wife of a solider in the 173rd, and have been not only in the Army but married to it for several years. I did sit her down and explain that not everyone has a college education, but even those of us who do cannot find decent work on Caserma. To add insult to injury we are often lumped in this setreotype of the many insults that others have bestowed upon us without having lived our lives. I told her of the many times that when I was not even getting my correct pay from the Army, and had just enough money to buy Roman Noodles till next pay day! There I was a very well educated woman who had a great sense of self, and a lot going for her in life who had made the choice to join the Army...and here I was struggiling to buy roman noodles! My MOS required me to be on sep. rats., but that was IF and WHEN the money came in! I shared with her my experience on both sides of the coin and she knows me very well! We've been friends since we were both toddlers, and were 1 & 2nd in our graduating class. Both have degrees, and are working to gain more education. I have been accepted and plan to attened a school with a very good name, and now sit wondering if I will be able to afford it being that my husband works in a salary capped situation, and if the government will let up the stop loss holding us overseas! I often wonder if I will ever be able to spare enough time, money to have another child like we would like. There are many things we scarifice to support our country. After all of that I asked Kelli if she would write about me in her paper as if I was one of the people her predecceors had writen about. I too was a solider, am now a wife...would she do me this way? Kelli explained her study, and once again I explained that if I were to put her in my situation would she feel the same as she does about this research? She explained that the type of research she is doing will help to lobby government changes for those of us effected by these stats. I told her that I personally don't ask anything of the Army, and try as hard as I can to stay far enough away from it..to have her invade my privacy to study me on behalf of them is not something I want to be a part of. I stay away from the green machine, and I try hard to have it stay away from me! My husband is my only concern, not the lives of those who compalin and bitch at the drop of a hat. I told her I bet many of you feel the same way, so know that my stance as an ioslationist, and ex-pat...will be just that. Kelli agreed...now she can go bother some officers wives on our local base! ha! Besides I was staving her off from posting the stats she had me look at on military spouses....trust me you DO NOT want to know them!!! I had to pick my jaw up off the floor! I'm not saying I couldn't give you a list an arm length long of women I DO know of that fits her stats, but dang! Come on you all now them too, don't act like you don't! I just can't believe they release that info! I mean why can't they just go study some enangered snail in the amazon for god's sake! Peace be with you all....I think I will wait to come back to Italy, sounds like there is just way to much fun going on for me to return just yet!

Families of all the Heros of the 173rd. I read in amazement as many vent your frustrations. My heart bleeds for many of you as I can read the homesickness you feel for your loved one. Rightfully so. This may indeed be your first experience with a deployed soldier, whether it is your son, husband, daughter, brother, mother, father, sister, etc. I see that many of you as I am are "first timers" to this experience. I can assure you that my soldier knew exactly the conquences of what he may face when he signed the dotted line. He has always wanted to "fight for his country" and the benefits that the ARMY will afford him was not the sole reason for his enlistment. So to the one who stated that "we should have known what we were getting ourselves into" I assure you that we did. I am greatly offended by the one who wrote "grow up".....I Mam was a police officer for numerous years and I have witnessed death in every possible manner known to man with the exception of war. I have unfortunatley had to use deadly force in the scope of fulfilling my duties and I know what it is like not to know if you are going to come home to your family or not; I know what it is like to have the nightmares with faces staring at you...so I can assure you that I have indeed grown up....I also hold a masters degree, so you are not dealing with an "idiot" either. To those of you who are getting mail, and phone calls, and your soldiers are receiveing mail....God Bless you and you should be thankful. I can tell you for a fact that phone calls have been coming however my soldier did not receive a piece of mail the last mail call and more than one is sent daily and yes, I have made many mistakes in my life but putting the wrong address on such an important piece of mail was not one of them. So apparently some are receiving mail and some are not. So let us be kind to those who aren't and don't judge them because ours are. All of our soldiers are not located in the same location and apparently their location dictates their mail, their calls, and their work load. My soldier says that he has no time to sleep, let alone write. He is constantly busy.....was it his trained task? We will let the Army decide that....I do question this however and I also question others coming back when ours have not....that is fair for me to question, that is my right......just as you have yours. So I close challenging each and every one of us, including myself, to not use this website as a place to vent. After this I am as guilty as you so I criticize myself as well. Let's use it to build our soldiers....pick up your phone and call your congressmen, senators, etc. if you wish to vent. The creator of this website was so gracious to spend his volunteered time to assist us in posting messages in hopes that our soldiers would read them. Hopefully the deliverey of these will not be made to our soldiers... Let us all unite as military families and concentrate on the power of prayer....Pray hard that the 173rd will come home next week! God is the power and all things can be done with prayer....have faith....and keep praying.... One other topic.....My soldier too was told June, then July, and now August. Yes it is true that deployments may range up to 8, 10, 12 months...but if so, why were they told June? July? to get their hopes up and now to destroy their morale? I can give numerous times of failure of communication through the ARMY and I assume as long as I am in a military family, I will see many more. But I am proud of my soldier....he is my hero as well as all of your soldiers too....... Challenge.......let's see if we all can through away that desire to vent and allow the following writings that we post be to uplift our soldiers..... God Bless each of you, may he comfort those in need, calm the fears of those worried, and bring each and every soldier of the 173rd home safely!!! Think positive and pray positive!! In JUNE!!!

To: Roberto Sandifer B Co 2/503rd. Happy Birthday Uncle Roberto, I really miss you and love you. As you can see I have learned to type. Today is the last day of school for me, I am going to the 9th grade and Brianna to the 3rd grade. We are moving to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in July. My daddy is going to CGSC. Uncle Roberto, I don't understand why people are being so rude to each other on this web-site. I have read some of the e-mails because I throught you would post me a e-mail. But instead I have read some bad things, it make me want to cry because I know that the Army take care of everybody and they afford us good places to live and food on the table. I ask my mom why people are saying such bad things to each other and she told me you have to pray for each other. My mom also told me that the Army always take care of their own. That most people must realize that if it wasn't for the Army we wouldn't get to see different places and we would have to pay a lot for health care. We have been lucky, Uncle Berto because the Army has taken us to Germany, Italy, Hawaii, Fort McClellan, Fort Bliss, Virginia, Tampa, and now Kansas. I know when mommy had Brianna, and Brandon the only thing she had to pay for was the room. I know that Auntie has to pay a lot for dental and medical care. I just pray that everybody will be nice to each other and stop arguing. My mother said that if people continue to write bad things they might remove this web site and we want have any communication. SO, PLEASE WHOEVER READ THIS E-MAIL, PLEASE TAKE IN CONSIDERATION FOR US KIDS, PLEASE BE NICE TO EACH OTHER AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER. MY UNCLE AND HIS UNIT IS FIGHTING OVER SEAS. WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER WAR ON E-MAIL. GOD BLESS YOU ALL. (ANDRE'& BRIANNA JOHNSON ARMY BRATS)

Well, I do not know of this Kelli, or her research, but I do have information! My son and daughter-in-law and four of my grandchildren are on a base in Europe..they were previously in the States in Nca...my daughter-in-law works on the base and did in NCa..she also manages to be a wife and mother of the first degree, my son and grandkids are well taken care of. She keeps a great house, cooks, attends evening functions, and chaperones school field trips. She is not and will never be "White trash"..(small minded people use terrible descriptions, don't they?) Jen takes my grandkids to church, helps them with schoolwork, comforts them when they miss their daddy who is in the 173rd deployed in Iraq. She has not seen we her family but once in three years, and was due to be home this past April, now facing a longer time overseas and without the help of my son, her husband. Does she gripe? only when tired, or worried. Does she have all the money she needs? not always, but she improvises. From what I saw while visiting them at Ft Bragg, a lot of the wives went thru the same thing, and are doing so now while on foreign soil. Can we not give them the support they need without name calling? can we not give Praise? Let us pull together for all their sakes and pray for them as well as our soldiers. These women are a unique group, and I say Atta Girls!!!! love, a mother/motherinlaw/grammie

My heart goes out to those of you who have voiced an opinion and are being beaten up on a daily, hourly basis for your thoughts and concerns. Yes, had you not posted those thoughts but instead sought consolation from other sources, such as a trusted family member, other military family members, your Chaplain, your best friend.... you wouldn't have to withstand the verbal bashings! Nothing hurts worse then being kicked when one is down. I, personally, understand your frustrations, your fears, your worries. It's important to know that you are NOT alone in all of these mixed emotions. Especially if this is your first go-around in a war situation; it's a painful learning experience. Very painful. But, each hurdle you overcome makes you stronger. Each time you fight the fear, frustration, lonliness, the "missing" and realize the victory of defeat when the dark clouds pass, you pocket those experiences as a source of strength from which to draw throughout the rest of your life! Remember the saying, "war is hell on the homefront, too.." Our soldiers are taught to endure, to persevere; they're taught staunch discipline! Something we must learn from experience; therein lies the challenges we face on a daily basis. And thus, the need for positive support, understanding and reinforcement. My wish for you.... for us, as a military family.... is that we can learn to accept the things we cannot change; that we find strength from one another to create and maintain a positive environment; that we seek comfort from our Higher Power and accept the peace and guidance that's freely given, if we only ask. In doing so, our fears and frustrations are channeled through this Power -- setting us free from the oppression that hovers over us. We can learn to "trust" that the lives of our soldiers are completely in protective Hands and He truly cares about their well-being. The will return different men! Proud Soldiers! And we can share their homecoming knowing that we, too, have fought our own battles on their behalf with the same pride and dignity that they so bravely demonstrate! God Bless Our Soldiers and their families! God Bless America!

This is to Kelli. I am not here to bash you but only for you to see the true side of the military wife. Your white trash comment is a little disturbing based on the fact that you have no idea of the pay scale that comes along with the Army. Fighting for freedom is a big price to pay for the money that these soldiers make. A brand new soldier that just joins the military to fight for your right only makes 1023 dollars a month. That is it! Now granted the soldiers do have either a barracks(a dormitory) to live in or if they are married housing to live in. But you must realize all the expenses that are accured. You have car payments and utility payments don't forget car insurance and food as well as all of your monthly expenses(remember gas for the car and basic necessities). As a new soldier, they have to pay for all of that on 1023 dollars a month. Do you think that you could do that? Now take into consideration the fact that if that soldier is married, I'm sure that eventually his wife would like to start a family. How do you pay for a baby too? Babies are very expensive. I think that the wives of the military are looked at as "White trash" because they have other priorities they are worrying about than what they look like. I know that you are doing research and are only going by what others have stated, but you must not forget the real picture. Now as a militray wife, think about only having 1023 dollars a month to spend and now realize that your husband will be gone 10 months out of the next year. What do you think that your feeling will be? You have no idea where he is at or what he is doing! And sometimes you don't even know the cause that he is fighting for. All you know is that he doesn't have a choice. He will do this for the love of his country. Then you wonder what about the love for me. You know what, that flies out the window when the Army calls. Think about those feelings when you are writing your paper. Kelli's friend is absolutely right in thinking that you should take this to another post. The wives on this post have been without their husbands for the last year. Kelli, you have to realize that for the last year these soldiers have been training for this war. They have been all over Europe training for this cause. There is too much frustration right now. It has nothing to do with you. It has to do with the fact that we need our husbands. Think about the one person that you love more that life itself, then take them away for ten months. Do you think that your frustrations would be high. Please look at the whole picture. We understand that you only have to go by what your research is saying, but I think that it would be best that your friend sit down and break down the pay scale and rank. Before you start your research, you need to form your own true opinion based on what is real not what is in research. There are many wives that are educated that can't find a job. I have tried to find a job for nine months on this post and there are no jobs available. We are living in a foreign country and can not work on the economy. Well there are only so many jobs available. So even if you want to better yourself, you can't you do not have the opportunity to do so, because of the limited access. You know designer jeans and clothes are not a priority when you are feeding kids and rearing them to be the best that they can be. I would love to walk around with the best of everything, then reality sets in and I have to shop at Walmart instead of the Gap. I have my degree and it is very frustrating to not be able to use it over here. But instead I have decided to go and get my masters while I'm here. But it will come out of my own pocket. There is more money that I will not have to raise my family. So please look at every aspect of the military before writing your research paper. I think that you will find that your assumptions from the research is wrong. They were not looking at the whole picture. Good luck with your research. I hope that you find that we are a bunch of great people, that just really miss our husbands a lot.

ATTN: J E F F R E Y K U P I S C H !!!! Greetings from HOME! I hope you're able to access this site & read all the messages to you! Just wanted to leave a message & let you know that Christian is up here now. He's working on the ponds for me. He's only staying a couple days with his girl friend's family in Schaumberg. I plan to give him some $$ for his time & effort - even tho he doesn't expect it. It was so nice of him to come up & help me with this since Grant doesn't seem interested in putting the ponds back in this year. I have the pool filled, have to go get chemicals then I'll turn it on & get it all cleaned out. I thought I'd talk to Robby Johnson & the owners of Pools & Spas & see if they'll send you guys a couple cases of pool chemicals to clean out your swimming pool!! (ha!) Hey! It won't hurt to ask! The worse they could say is no - right? Well, I have to move along here & get some work done. Oh, Jason called - he missed passing his PT by 1 minute - the run... it's always the run that gets him!!! He knows it too! He should just change his whole attitude about running & JUST DO IT! Right??? I love you & miss you terribly! I've been getting updates forwarded to me from another parent, so I have more specific prayers for all of you! I got your 4/12th letter! Thank you! It made me cry! I think of you often too, son. You're still my F.B.B. now & forever!! Psalms 91 in your heart, yet?? Much love, Mom

You people need to grow up! Please stop complaining out loud. All it does is bring others down. If you have such a lousy life and have to down the army and it's commanders than do it in private. I like the life the army provides and even though I miss my husband I am not going to complain about mondane things such as mail, phone calls, and when they are coming home. Grow up, go on with your lives. Be excited when you do get that letter or phone call, but stop expecting it. Believe it or not the guys are being productive. They might not be doing much but "babysitting" but they are helping a group of people to have a life like the life americans have. Respect you spouse or family member and just shut up for goodness sake.

*Kelli* I know you've already been asked to not do research on this site, but I just wanted to comment on how rude your research is. I don't know if you meant it to be, but you really could have stated that a lot better. The women married to military men are kind, honest, generous women who happen to be going through a lot of stress right now, no they shoudln't complain, but you shouldn't judge. They are not "white trash" many of them have higher education, I happen to be a doctor. No one chooses who God has for them, they just know they love that person, they are not going to stop loving them for fear of being stereotyped as white trash. I am proud of all of our soldiers and of all of the women who stand behind them, may God bless the men who fight for our freedom AND their wives.

Those of you who are spouses of the 173rd soldiers, I have asked *Kelli to take her research to the local Army post here. She wrote me to tell me she had posted a message on this site, and I read it. I asked her to please refrain from doing her research with this pool of wives. I explained to her that the tentions amoung you all is high enough, and that her research would not be seen as a sicentific study. I will tell you she really did start out to negate some of these rumors with all good intentions. I have read several of the things she has asked me to about this subject she is studying, and I assured her if she were to "share" those with the wives on this site....I don't want to know what would happen! I also explained to her that "yes, while many of the stereotypes that are currently in print are not totally unfounded. The fact still remains that these women do not want to tackle the issues of fighting setreotypes while their husbands are deployed!" *Kelli said she would honor my request and take her study to antoher post. I know many messages will be posted about how offened people were by her questions, but the truth is the things I have read about military spouses was not favorable. She was trying to prove otherwise, but sadly I could not convince her after she read many of these messages posted here. I really did want her to find the good in the wives, and how they pull together to help one another and all the other pretty stuff. I am sorry that I cannot tell her to make up lies...those things are not true. I have never seen any of that happen in the many years I've been conected to the Army. So, now I pray she does not find the bad..and print it! You don't often see that the other people who have studied this area have found over and over again certain things that keep ringing true, and you are the only ones who can change that sterotype. Even with *Kelli not studying this group of wives....these things should be changed and maybe any reputable damage could be undone. I ask you not to further this fire she may have started...Lord knows that would be unproductive!

This message is for Spc. Phillip Hatton. Hey Phillip, it's Dad. Do you still remember me? Sorry I haven't written to you in a while. It's been busy at work. We have 2 days of school left and it has been very confusing. I've been trying to get some farming done, but it's rained almost every day for the last month. We finally got our garden out over the holiday weekend. I'm hoping you will be home before the tomatoes get ripe. We would hate for you to miss out on a good B.L.T. I cleaned your bike over the weekend too. I took it for a spin through N.B. State Park. I've only put about 1300 miles on my bike so far this summer. I missed out on the trip last week to Myrtle Beach. I've saving my time for a big bike ride with you when you get home. I'd like to take a couple weeks and just ride. I took Austin for a ride on the tractor today down Mindy's driveway and he went to sleep before I got back to the top of the hill. I hope you are doing ok and things are not too bad for you. Hang in there, time will pass and you'll be back home before you know it. I really miss you and wish you the best. Love, Dad

Kelli, Surely even KU teaches their Master's students about sampling error in research. (Your research would be flawed.) You can be sure the wives of the 173rd are intelligent women who are only concerned and stressed about their soldiers welfare.

LADIES, MOMS, WIFES, some of you are probably too young to remember VietNam, I do my Dad was there, there was no e-mail, only two phone calls thru the MARS system, and mail that came either in great quantities or no mail at all. You ALL must have faith in the ARMY, use the Army Family Services, which did NOT exsist for my Mom during Nam, at least the majority of the people are behind you and not spitting at you. Be proud, you married a SOLDIER, not an office worker. Our son is with the 173rd, we want him back in Italy, he is tired, hot and has numerous other complaint, HE HAS THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN. You ladies need to re think you anger, do something positive, plan a welcome home party, babysit for another army wife, have an avon party, keep yourself busy, set an example for your children. We are proud of you too, we also understand your missing your husband. Pray, it will bring them home safe. Trust, in command. Have faith in the larger plan.

SPC Phillip Hatton- 3rd PLT...Battle Co. 2/503....Hey baby, how are you? I'm doing okay I guess. The whole family is down from Ohio this weekend for Kassie's graduation. It's not been the best time in the world. Everyone is down each other's throats; it's crazy how family gets when they spend too much time together (well my family anyway, you know how it is)! I wish you could be here Phillip, I miss you terribly. It seems as if everything has went down hill since you left. You need to hurry up and get home! I read an article today about some soldiers from the 173rd finding 999 bars of gold. They said if it was real, then it would be worth over $250 million! I got an email from my key-caller back on post and she said that Taffoya and Cady were back in Vicenza and both were doing okay. Taffoya even made it to church last Sunday. I miss you so much baby, and can't wait to see you. You better stay safe over there, or I will have to come and get you myself!! YOU KNOW, that won't be good! Well sweetheart, stay safe. I pray for you everyday, and think about you every second. Don't forget about me! Love you, Bran

SPC Phillip Hatton, B2/503... Hey Phillip! Just wanted you to know that we're all thinking about you here at home. Hoping that things are going well for you and your buddies. No great news from home. You know!!! The more things change, the more they stay the same! The only difference: we miss you being here, too. Graduation Friday night; I may be able to slip over to your in-laws and join the party for Kassie. Gramma's hanging in, Phillip. She's waiting for you to get back to safety and hopefully home to see her. She's doing much better right now and tries to keep up on what's going on over there..... with you in mind! We'll save you a copy of the "WC Tattler!!!" this week. You're on the front page, with lots of pride for your contribution to our safety and our freedom! Take care of you; you're our Hero and we expect to see you at home very soon! Until then, our thoughts are with you and the entire 173rd ABN BGD: for courage and endurance as you face the challenges of each day; for the strong bond of comradarie among your team, squad and platoon; for a reminder each day that there is unity in numbers! Stand firm and tall. Support one another as you strive to proudly carry out the tasks set before you! Do it, Phillip, with pride and dignity! And remember that you WILL return to us, unharmed and proud of the duties you've performed as a United States Paratrooper! Hang tough! We're all here cheering you on and cannot wait to watch you remove "your American Flag" in town, and cut down the dozens of yellow ribbons that hang in your honor. You're my hero.... you always have been and you always will be. I love you, "Mom"

Hi Ho Kris rain, rain, rain, every afternoon, just normal south florida summer weather. Praying everyday for all of the members of the 173rd, it's time for you all to go back to Italy. Watch for packages, the lack of mail to y'all really gives new meaning to snail mail. We will have Jacenya this weekend, planning a trip to Sandee's the week of June 8th, we will be flying Delta. LTMTS, miss you, want you back in a safe place. Could not be more proud of your Kris, hang in there, time is short for your stay in Iraq. LTYMS Mom

Glenn Bolland (medic). Just to let you know we are still thinking of you. Found some old photos of your dad when he was in the 82nd. Some things don't change. Not too much happens in this area of Maryland. We've had so much rain the guy on the radio said that if anyone sees a ray of sunlight not to worry == it will go away soon. Your grandmother is doing very well (for her age) and asks about you. We hope you guys will be coming home soon. Your mom won't relax until she sees you -- haven't talked to her but I do know how she feels about you boys. Saw the photo of you with your hands on your helmet. Take care and remember we are all here thinking of you. Diane

***To all the wives and others who are writing on this message board I was wondering if you could all be a little more specific in your complaints. My friend intorduced me to this site when I approached her about doing a study in anthropology on the complex world of the Army. Not the Army in and of itself as a military oraginzation, but my study is more on the dependents of the military. To be honest the works I have read on my subject of study have made me a little concerned, and interested in the REAL MILTARY SPOUSE. The works out there are filled with the sentiment that most of the Army's spouses are "White Trash (Sharon Kake, Pengiun Pusblihing 1999)" or many other unsundry insults. I had to start my research with one person, and I knew I couldn't use just one wife to be the focus of a broader study. She suggested many sites. The things I have seen on this site I have been printing and will use in my document. I wanted to thank you, but also make you aware that you may wish to be a little more concious that I am here reviewing many of these things, and I really do not wish to add to the long list of insulting reports. I would like to know more about the following topics I have higlighted from messages on here. 1, Specific Complaints 2. the workings of these FRG's 3. The stresses you are experiencing, aside from missing them (I already got that idea from these writtings) 4. the ammount of communications you are having 5. Most important I would like some people's honest answer to these which are: What do you feel the Army owes you as a spouse of a military member? 6. The true level of education you hold and true age 7. How many children you are caring for at this time 8. Do you hold a job outside of the home, and if so how many hours a week do you work. I ask these questions all in the search of sociological science. I am really interested in this research, so please be as honest as possible. It is simply for a study. I know my friend very well and have been told by many that she is an aboration of this study, and that is why I really need more stats to go on. I hope to submit my findings to the Dept of KU for review (and of course a grade..I am working on my master's here). If anyone would be interesed in the end product please post a message for me on this site. ou may call me *Kelli*. Thank you for your help.

This message is for Spc Phillip Hatton. Hey ya little fart...its your big sister. I hear that you are getting the messages that the fam has been posting here. How'd ya like the one from good ol 'Aunt Dar'?? Things are getting pretty boring around here without you to raise a little hell! The black marks on the deck left by your motorcycle tires have pretty much faded now. I'm thinking I might need a new set to get p***** about. Are ya up for the challenge again? :) You will not believe how big your little nephew is when you get to see him. He weighs in at a whopping 19 lbs 15 oz now. Dad has decided that he is going to have to start walking soon because no one is going to be able to carry him around much longer! Syd is still the little stinker that she has always been, she's just getting a little older and better at it. James and I are taking her to Kings Island this weekend for a little fun. She's looking forward to starting to school this fall. I'm not sure if I'm ready for all the phone calls from her teachers! I think
