TO THE 2/503, IN REGARDS TO SPC JOHNSON, The DA didnt approve my sons Purple Heart and i also hear you will not be giving my son a Bronze Star in stead an Arcom, while others who have'nt seen combat are recieving a Bronze Star. My son took 4 bullets for you and his country and an Arcom is the only thing his country and unit can give in return? My son is very angry and cant believe his unit has swept him under the carpet like this. He believed in the 2/503 and now he has been done a great diservice. He fought hard for you and i think you guyz can at least do better than an Arcom and at the least MY SON DESERVES THE PURPLE HEART.

I wish to remind everyone who reads this site that ALL of the 173d soldiers have taken an oath to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States and are ALL volunteers who serve willingly in THE BEST UNIT IN THE US MILITARY.For those of you who believe this site should cease operating, I would remind you of the 1st Amendment of our constitution which guarantees,among other things, the right to free speech. The webmaster is a PROUD veteran of the 173d Airborne and I know he will NOT violate the oath he took! I am aware that not only do the families miss thier loved ones but the same is also true of them. They miss you and they miss the homes and people they have sworn to defend.Even more, they are willing to give the gift of freedom to a foreign people they may or may not understand, and at the same time show the Iraqis why the U.S.A. is the beacon of hope and freedom for the world. They all represent America and I, for one am proud of these young AMERICAN PATRIOTS!! ALL THE WAY, AND THEN SOME!!!

July 17th...1/508...SSG. Mario Singer...Happy Anniversary to you...thank you for everything that you have given to me in my life. I just can hope that all is safe with you and your fellow comrades!!! My wish for you and all our American Soldiers is that you all return safely soon. I am very sadden by all of the losses that this war has burden us with...I ask all of you to bow your head and ask Jesus to wrap his loving arms around the ones who has lost their loved ones...may it be their son/daughter, brother/sister, grandson/granddaughter, husband/wife, father/mother, or just one's dear friend. We must ALWAYS remember what the American flag stands for...especially white with stands for courage and red with stands for the blood that has been shed for OUR freedom. P.S. Ok here is the deal everyone. What did your mom/dad/teacher always say to do when you were in grade school and some other kid was really pestering you, but slugging them was not an option? They said to just ignore them. Not getting the satisfaction of your irritation would send them elsewhere. Now, I know that in reality that is a hard thing to do, but w/ strength and perseverence it really does work. Also, killing them with kindness it a biggie, too. So my suggetion is that everytime someone posts something negative we all either ignore it or, if the frustration is too much, jump on the site and post an encouraging note to your soldier(s) in the fray. You will find in the long run that the high road will make you (feel like) a better person; due in part to the personal integrety you had to muster to find that road. So, maintain the path and everyone pick up your ores, cuz we are all in this boat together. Have great day and just know that passing time is just a function of our own reality. I hate to say this, but I agree with you. At first I thought no don't do that the soldiers need to hear from their loved ones, but this is just completely out of hand, the talk and the stuff that goes on here is unbelievable! Do you people even think about the fact that these guys are risking their lives daily? They see stuff that you would never want to see in your worst nightmares, the psychological impact of war itself is enough, there is no need for the comments made about some of the soldiers on here. Keep your personal life personal, and do NOT talk bad about any one of these soldiers, I don't care what they did to you, you have NO RIGHT to embarrass them on a public message board while they are risking their lives to protect your freedoms. This is a disgrace to the 173rd which is made up of fine men and women. I hope this is stopped before some of these things get out. To the 173rd, we are all so proud of every single one of you and are praying for you constantly, you are our heros!!!!

I agree with almost all of your posting. However, I beg to differ that ALL soldiers have access to the phone and internet. You may want to check with every unit 173rd before you post such things. There are some obviously unstable wives out there and now they are going to believe their husbands don't WANT to contact them and that is not the case for every soldier.

To whom worte about Brandon Airid....You know you have to be one of the most ignorant people on this site! Bradon is the Public Affairs personel taking the photos that are put on this site. He is nice enough to share with you his work, so that you may have a chance to see your loved ones...or actually get a better view of what really is going on over there. Brandon has about as much say in the matter of re-deployment of the 173rd and he does about you getting a labotomy! Fact is it will not happen until CENTCOM and the rest of the leadership sign off on it, so you just might as well get prepared for that. I am not happy myself at the prospect of my husband being gone for a year, but I knew he was a soldier when I married him! Now comes the wonderful Suck it up and drive on phase of life...so I suggest you do the same and stop bashing my friend Brandon! If you are so energetic that you can sit on here and post junk like you do then I would think if you had two brain cells and could rub them together you'd put them to better use! Write your Congessman, not that it will do any good, but maybe it will give you something to do. I swear between the posts about cheating wives, whinny wives, and all that I see on here...it's a wonder I haven't become the Water Tower sitting wife with the high powered rifle! It's people like you who are out of hand, and should consider going to your chain of command and asking for ERD paperwork. If you can't fill it out I am sure you can find someone who will help you! Brandon Aird does not run this website. He is a soldier in the 173rd. He takes pictures of the Brigade and the webmaster is kind enough to post them on his website. You can contact the webmaster by clicking on the link. He can't pass messages on to other soldiers, it isn't his job. He's busy being a soldier. I think family members and spouses don't understand this.

To Brandon Aird, Since the email is up and running (in Iraq) and anyone with a PC or feet to walk to the FAC or Library can access email, I thought it couldn't hurt to request that the message board be shut down. The ignorant messages now out number the good ones. The parents and loved ones are posting messages that are dangerous to our soldiers although they are unaware of it. Spouses and families of the 173D, if you agree, write Brandon, tell him so he can see how we all feel about this. Brandon, if you are not the one who makes this decision please foward it on. I appreciate everything you have done thus far, and so do all the supporting families. Our military families (soldiers,spouses,and proud parents) deserve better, please consider it. Thanks!

WHY DO PEOPLE TYPE THEIR MESSAGES WITH THE CAPS LOCK ON??? If you don't know, hit the "Caps Lock" key on your computer. Otherwise, we don't bother reading your messages. If you went back to your posting and looked at it, you would see why. Also- the PAO office has a significant job for the military, and it DOES NOT include relaying messages to soldiers from postings on this website. There are several thousand soldiers deployed here, and you want some Private to dedicate his entire day to shuttling your private ramblings to each soldier? First- this website is a private site, with NO AFFILIATION WITH THE US ARMY. Second- every single soldier here has access to the internet, the phone, and the post office. While some may have only a half hour or so each week to write an e-mail, and it is hard to get a phone call in, and the phone calls are limited to 15 minutes, EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER here can mail you a letter. If your soldier has not contacted you- guess what...either the soldier does not know your mailing address, does not know your e-mail address, or does not know your phone number (or the operator won't connect him- cell phones are sometimes hard to reach). If none of the above apply to you; there is only one answer left- one you may not like. The soldier has made a deliberate decision to not call you, not write to you, and not e-mail you. You may not be as important as someone else he is using his 15 minutes to call, or his 15 minutes to peck out an e-mail to. As for letters- there is no excuse. If the soldier doesn't want to take a minute to write to you (and believe me, they all have lots and lots and lots of free minutes) and drop the letter off in one of the MANY post office boxes available at all unit locations, then I am terribly sorry- but nothing can make that soldier write to you. Whining on this site, harrassing the chain of command, making ridiclous comments to the press, and your congressman- all of that is in vain if you think it is going to get your soldier to write to you. All you are doing is making more work for the people that have to react to your allergations that your soldier is being held hostage by his command and he is clawing for the phone- but he can't dial your number because his leaders chopped off his fingers and are poking him in the eyes with them. Understand that all of the brigade deployed soldiers are doing a critical service for their nation- they are deployed. No one knows when they will return. There are rumors started by Rear Detachment soldiers that are mowing the lawn or guarding a gate from rude but harmless Italians- these rumors are nothing but rumors. While they might make wives cry, and parents grumble about the President and Rumsfeld, they exist only for one endstate- to create chaos and fill this website with more worthless rantings and whinings. Do not give into any rumors posted here or anywhere else. If you want information- ASK YOUR UNIT'S CHAIN OF COMMAND. For deployed soldiers- that is their unit here. For the families- that is THE BRIGADE REAR DETACHMENT. Contact them through official government phones, websites, or visits. If you think you are going to get a straight answer on this website, a site that has postings below filled with the F-word, amoung other things- then keep on living in denial. Finally- for those of you who bothered to read this far- about the spouse cheating garbage on this site. Like the rumors, the allergations here are just people trying to stir up trouble. Childish! Fine- enjoy it. Soldiers here love reading this column- it is like the ultimate trash-talk forum for people to air their dirty laundry. As for people taking it seriously- don't count on it. For the few postings in here that seem to ring true- if you have a significant problem- you need to contact the UNIT REPRESENTATIVE, on the Rear Detachment. For wives- it is your FRG group leader. For Italian girlfriends- sorry, ladies- but if you are pregnant with a soldier's child- the US ARMY cannot recognize you for anything without the soldier completing paperwork confirming the child is his. You need to contact the unit on REAR DETACHMENT- airing your dirty laundry here on this site is not only worthless (and hysterically funny for others), but outright embarassing (and probably harmful) for the soldiers you are naming. This post will not change much. I expect that. If a few parents now have a few more answers- then great. As for future issues- if your soldier doesn't write, call, or e-mail, then take it up with the soldier himself in a letter. Mail, while slow, is absolutely reliable. While it often takes up to 30 days- the soldiers are getting it. The mail here is the absolute best in all of Iraq, period. Talk to other units- their mail is really jacked up. Ours works- I have gotten letters from Spokane Washington that were dated 16 days prior- that is not the norm, but it does happen. If you get the soldier's name or unit wrong- then it gets returned. Be ABSOLUTELY SURE you have your soldier's address correct. I cannot stress to you how a simple error can make all letters returned. If you write a letter to your soldier, and include your phone number, e-mail address, and mailing address- the soldier then has every opportunity here to send you a quick e-mail, perhaps call you for 15 min (once per week, at any hour of the day, whenever he has a chance to get a free phone line), or he can write to you practically ANYWHERE. If you get no response- then either your info is WRONG or the soldier DOES NOT WANT TO CONTACT YOU. Sometimes it's sad but true.

If the soldier doesn't want to take a minute to write to you (and believe me, they all have lots and lots and lots of free minutes) and drop the letter off in one of the MANY post office boxes available at all unit locations, then I am terribly sorry- but nothing can make that soldier write to you. Whining on this site, harrassing the chain of command, making ridiclous comments to the press, and your congressman- all of that is in vain if you think it is going to get your soldier to write to you. All you are doing is making more work for the people that have to react to your allergations that your soldier is being held hostage by his command and he is clawing for the phone- but he can't dial your number because his leaders chopped off his fingers and are poking him in the eyes with them. Understand that all of the brigade deployed soldiers are doing a critical service for their nation- they are deployed. No one knows when they will return. There are rumors started by Rear Detachment soldiers that are mowing the lawn or guarding a gate from rude but harmless Italians- these rumors are nothing but rumors. While they might make wives cry, and parents grumble about the President and Rumsfeld, they exist only for one endstate- to create chaos and fill this website with more worthless rantings and whinings. Do not give into any rumors posted here or anywhere else. If you want information- ASK YOUR UNIT'S CHAIN OF COMMAND. For deployed soldiers- that is their unit here. For the families- that is THE BRIGADE REAR DETACHMENT. Contact them through official government phones, websites, or visits. If you think you are going to get a straight answer on this website, a site that has postings below filled with the F-word, amoung other things- then keep on living in denial. Finally- for those of you who bothered to read this far- about the spouse cheating garbage on this site. Like the rumors, the allergations here are just people trying to stir up trouble. Childish! Fine- enjoy it. Soldiers here love reading this column- it is like the ultimate trash-talk forum for people to air their dirty laundry. As for people taking it seriously- don't count on it. For the few postings in here that seem to ring true- if you have a significant problem- you need to contact the UNIT REPRESENTATIVE, on the Rear Detachment. For wives- it is your FRG group leader. For Italian girlfriends- sorry, ladies- but if you are pregnant with a soldier's child- the US ARMY cannot recognize you for anything without the soldier completing paperwork confirming the child is his. You need to contact the unit on REAR DETACHMENT- airing your dirty laundry here on this site is not only worthless (and hysterically funny for others), but outright embarassing (and probably harmful) for the soldiers you are naming. This post will not change much. I expect that. If a few parents now have a few more answers- then great. As for future issues- if your soldier doesn't write, call, or e-mail, then take it up with the soldier himself in a letter. Mail, while slow, is absolutely reliable. While it often takes up to 30 days- the soldiers are getting it. The mail here is the absolute best in all of Iraq, period. Talk to other units- their mail is really jacked up. Ours works- I have gotten letters from Spokane Washington that were dated 16 days prior- that is not the norm, but it does happen. If you get the soldier's name or unit wrong- then it gets returned. Be ABSOLUTELY SURE you have your soldier's address correct. I cannot stress to you how a simple error can make all letters returned. If you write a letter to your soldier, and include your phone number, e-mail address, and mailing address- the soldier then has every opportunity here to send you a quick e-mail, perhaps call you for 15 min (once per week, at any hour of the day, whenever he has a chance to get a free phone line), or he can write to you practically ANYWHERE. If you get no response- then either your info is WRONG or the soldier DOES NOT WANT TO CONTACT YOU. Sometimes it's sad but true.

To everyone that is worried about what is going on here in Vicenza. Please understand that the majority of the women that are here are very loyal to their husbands and love them with all of there heart. In every crowd you will have one that doesn't do the right thing, but to broadcast that over this website is wrong. We need to get on here and say we are really proud of our wives for what they are doing like sending packages and keeping these soldiers home in good condition so that they can come home and live a good life. For the women that are doing the wrong thing....it will catch up with them eventually, BUT don't beat us down with the comments on here. We don't care what they are doing. If you want a barometer on units coming home,watch what is happening to the 3rd ID. They are one of the longest deployed Army units and no doubt will be one of the first units to return to thier home base.If you put your mindset on 10 months to a year you will probably be close. Also remember the troops in Afghanistan and how long they are deployed. Also remember Liberia,just in case. Remember the tour of duty in Nam was 1 year.I have followed the activivities of the Herd and they are doing an outstanding job. Maybe if they capture some more Turkish Special Ops units they will be asked to go home sooner. At any rate, everyone with sons/daughters,brothers/sisters,cousins,husbands/uncles/aunts,and fathers serving in the HERD should be proud and keep in mind they are closer to coming home than they were in April,May,June,July, etc. DRIVE ON,ALL THE WAY,AIRBORNE!!!!!WE ALL GO IN,WE ALL COME OUT.

This is an e-mail to our Rear-D here in Vicenza. I understand that the current worldsituation changes frequently and there might not be a redeployment date for our sky soldiers. On the other hand there are many wives that are getting very frustrated with the unknown. Most of these wives did not go home to visit with their family in the U.S. because they were worried to miss their husbands homecoming. It is now the middle of July and only 6 weeks left of summerbreak. I would hate to see that many miss out on the opportunity to travel home during summerbreak and are not able to go later in the year when school is back on. It looks more and more like the rumor about a redeployment in August will not happen. If this is true, and can be put out the community, I think it is time to do so. Maybe a few lucky wives can still take the remaining time of summer, and do something else than sit at home watch news, worry about their husbands safety, and try to catch the latest rumors and gossip in the foodcourt.

This message is in agreement with "A PROUD 173rd Wife"....This site is not meant to be used to air your "dirty laundry", or be negative. Don't you think our men and women have enough to deal with? I am quite certain your loved one would be very embarrassed to see what your writing, and how your airing your "business" on here, better yet, you should be embarrassed for writing it. It is one thing to write a letter when your angry to say what you want to say, but then to actually send it, well that is another story. Do you not think of the repercussions of having done this? Remember, you cannot take it back, or undue the hurt you have, or are causing someone. Words can be very powerful, they can be hurtful, they can be mean, or they can be uplifting, and I think our men and women should be seeing only "uplifting" words here. Afterall, this site was set up for us to be able to send messages, whether our loved ones get them or not, and be SUPPORTIVE for them and one another. I do not think that the families who visit this site on a regular basis need to see the things that some of you are writing on here. We all have problems, and we are all frustrated at how we are being told when they will be leaving, then it changes, then they get another date, it changes again. We need to deal with this as the ADULTS that we are supposed to be. Would you want your children, if you have them, reading some of this stuff? I am not sure if there are children who do get on here and write to their mom or dad, aunt or uncle, brother or sister, but we don't know that, and therefore we should be extra sensitive, in case they are. If you feel it is that important to talk about some of these issues, then write them a "personal" letter, and mail it. Do you honestly think there is anything they can do about some of this stuff half a world away? Do you not think they have enough to worry about without having to see some of this stuff? I think your being very selfish, and you need to really think about what it is your writing before you send it. I would hate to see those of us who use this site in a positive, and uplifting manner, lose it because a few of you cannot control yourselves. So please, let's all try to be more POSITIVE in the things we write here, and give our loved ones something to be proud of. I don't think some of these messages would make them very proud. Remember, they have been through enough already, and are going to need our SUPPORT when they come home, whenever that may be. This message is for PFC Ryan Wilmington.....Hey Ryan, I know you said you were not getting any of these messages, or the chance to even read them, but Pappan said he has been printing them out and mailing them to you to read. I wish I could make your time, as well as ALL the men and women over there, come to an end more quickly. I know it is not easy being over there in the very, very hot temperatures, and having to wear all that gear, and then on top of all that, having to make sure your staying safe and out of harms way. You should ALL be very PROUD of yourselves for what you have, and continue to do in helping to make your mission a success. I pray ALL of you have plenty of water, food, the chance to take a shower, at least a couple times a week, and the chance to get rest when you can. I know your mom worries daily about how you are, and if you are getting the things you need, which is probably the case for all the moms, dads, and wives, who have a loved one over there. To All the Wives and Girlfriends of 173rd: I just wanted to write a quick little note to say that I frequently read these postings to lift my spirits up. It warms my heart to read so many loving and supportives letters to our troops when they need them most. It makes me realize that the reason our guys are so strong is that they have people like us standing behind them, and waiting to meet them when they get home. But on the other hand I am greatly disturbed by the negative postings on this site. I don't think these postings are a place to air out your dirty laundry for everyone to read. IT is a little depressing, and if I might say, a tad bit trashy! Some topics are better discussed in private(like sex, infidelity, paternity issues, vulgar language). Most of the wives and other family that read these letters have quite enough going on in our lives that we don't need to be bothered with the petty bickering. One last thing...Whoever wrote the message to Sgt. Candellaro (sp) can probably contact his Rear D commander to get this obviously serious problem resolved quickly and PRIVATELY. Thanks! :)

I just go back to the house after a trip over to Commerce to meet w/ my group for the project. 1.5 hrs each way and I was only there an hour. That was ok. I was expecting to abe there for a longa** period of time (in the dark). But these guys have the "division of labor" thing down and there isn't a lot of mish-mash when it comes to the decision making. Our presentation is going to rock. Ch3 in the book is about "Assessment" High-Stakes/Formal(like all the TAAS,TAKS,etc) vs Authentic/Informal(rubric based) Assessment. So the crazy thing is w/ the 'pie-n-the-sky' approach to education we use Authentic Assessment, but in reality we are way far to the right with heavy emphasis on High Stakes Assessment. Now, I'm sure that was way more technical education jargon that you might have cared for, but that is what is up w/ my group. As I said, they are an intelligent lot :) and I leave out discussions feeling like we're on a level playing field and gonna knock the socks of the prof. For a group assignment that is really an unusual feeling to have. LOL Well, I'm gonna go do a bunch of Psych vocab and subliminaly determine where my parents screwed me up while learning what to watch for in my own classroom. LOL :) :) :) So take care, let me know when "Emeril" arrives. You've *got* to tell me what you want for your B-day. At least some ideas. Sgt Ben Keener/3plt C/1-508th-Hi son.I've had a quiet weekend. Clay & Brandon are backpacking so it's just me and the dogs. I did go down last night and take Myndi to dinner. She seems to be doing just fine. Isn't even limping. I think that idiot that told her she had a broken leg and put her on crutches made everything worse. Anyway thats good news. (no her leg was not broken) I'm wish that someone would clean some of the garbage off of this websight. It's been a wonderful thing for a lot of friends and family. It helps me feel connected to you. I don't even know if you see these except when I copied ours and mailed them to you. It really bothers me that its been abused by a very few to air their dirty laundry. I truly hope that the nasty messages are monitored out and not passed on. No one in your situation needs more stress than they have on a daily basis. Probably 95% have been wonderful supportive loving and sometimes teasing from loved ones. I believe that they are up to about 1600 printed pages now. The last update was 1300. It really has died off alot . Not nearly as many messages as there were even a month ago. Probably because more mail and phone calls are getting through. Clay is going to apply for a passport, hopefuly this week. I think he has decided that if I end up coming over to see you he should come to. I mean to Italy not Kirkuk. I love you, but wouldn't last a day in that heat. Remember going to see Aunt Sharon when she lived in the dersert? We really are hoping you get to come home 30 days after you return ti Italy. When ever that ends up being. I have found some of the articles on the stop-loss policy and will mail those to you. Maybe you can find some useful information. Weather is pretty good, hotter than I like but guess I shouldn't complain. Next Saturday (7/19) is the family get together and Tom & Janis' in Weimar. Ilea, Myndi and Ryan are all suppose to show up. I get to do snacks foods. So spinach dip,veggie platter and probably chips and salsa/dip. Don't think I'll do anything that takes more effort than that. I was having the same problem. My fiance was barely getting any of his letters from either me or his parents. When he was finally able to get in touch with us, he told us this and I started crying because he thought we just weren't writing!!! He was talking about how one of his buddies got a letter from his wife almost everyday! I was like, "What's she doing that we're not?!?!" He talked to someone and they told him to tell his family to send everything to his address in Vicenza and that it would be forwarded. So far everything I've sent to his address in Italy has made it to him and has made it there more quickly than when I was sending to the APO for where they are in Iraq. I don't know why that's been working better, but who cares! :) Hope this was at least somewhat helpful!!! :)

Robert Clow.....Wanted to let you know that I love and miss you! Also wanted to let you know that Robert wants you to come home for his birthday. I told him that you would if you could but you have to work. This is hard for a 5 yr. old to understand. So, he thinks that you are helping people that need you like spiderman does. He is ok with that, sometimes. But always asks where you are and what you are doing. He can show me on the globe but still asks me all the time! He loves you and misses you as too! I hope that all the soldiers know that we are all proud of them. They have made many sacrifies to make our world a better, safer place. You are our heros and are in my prayers every day. Also please rememeber that all wives are not cheating. We don't all deserve the harassment. I am very sorry to whomever it happened to, nobody deserves that kind of crap. I don't know the whole story but I do know that I am faithful along with the large majority of wives. We are waiting with open arms for the husbands we fell in love with to come home. I'm going to by a camcorder so i can tape it for you. I haven't been feeling to well lately, so I'm glad you don't have to see me with pregnancy cankels and all blaah. On the bright side once again I've only gain 2 poounds the whole pregnancy. Hailey is the name I want to go with, It means Hero and I think that is a perfect fit.
