Jacob Engle 173rd, 1/508th 1st plt. 1st sqd. Jacob went to see your Grandpa Engle today in the nursing home. He is in pretty good spirits. Diann will be taking him back home in a week or two. She has ordered a lift to assist her in bathing him and helping him into bed. Joshua beat us all in wahoo. Kevin and Ace are both playing for Newkirk and held Blackwell to 2 1st downs. they are on the defensive line. I watched the OU and OSU games on television and it looked like OSU are still choke pokes, but OU and their quarterback and receivers look real good. I miss watching the games with you. I think I will try to follow the tigers this year and watch Kevin and Ace play. They should have about a 50/50 season. Your mother and Joshua and Zachary went down to watch some speaker in OKC, but I stayed home and watched the games. They got drenched. It rained on them the whole time. It was an outside concert. I recently was e-mailed by my brother a editorial that Rush Limbaugh had posted. I have two older brothers, my father in-law, his twin brother, two uncles, myself, and my son who is currently serving with the 173rdin Iraq. That have served the United States with great honor and pride. Mr. Limbaugh showed the un-godly pay and retirement benefits that people in congress and the senate are getting ,not to mention how much their widows and widowers make. My point is that I heard that our loved ones in harms way will be taking a pay cut at the end of September and this really pisses me off! Our brave men and women already get paid next to nothing for putting their butts on the line and this is that way our government shows it's appreciation. Bull!!! Limbaugh also showed the chart on how much of a pay raise these arrogant S.O.B.s have given themselves over the years compared to a few dollar increase for the military. I can't see how these people can even look in the mirror each morning and how former veterans who now hold government positions in Washington can stand by and let this happen. I love the military and I volunteered to serve no matter what the crisis was. It's just time to take better care of our troops and their families.

Does anyone have thoughts to the end of the "herdword" newsletter article about how to send packages to any soldier? It states that our soldiers are no longer getting MRE's, the water supply was cut in 1/2,and the soldiers are only getting one hot meal a day. Is this true or are they trying to worry us for nothing? He said if one e-mail address is returned we can use any of the other e-mail addresses. hhccompany1508th@yahoo.com, bcompany1508@yahoo.com, acompany1508@yahoo.com. Just be sure to put your soldiers rank, name, and unit in the subject line. He said they will get sorted out and sent to the right unit. For PFC Andrew T. Son. Hi Andrew, We try to keep up with you through the news media and we do worry about you and think of you often. You are in our prayers. It is hard to believe the summer is almost over. I am not good on geography so don't know when your summer will be over, but hope it is soon. Am sure your summer is hotter than ours - in more ways than one. Our summer was great except that our car was totaled. We went to Austin to be with grandchildren, and were within six blocks of their house when a lady ran a red light and totaled the car. They hauled us out on boards and took us to the emergency room and x-rayed us from top to bottom. No broken bones or stitches - just lots of cuts and scrapes and bruises and sore muscles. JONATHAN MATTHEWS - Got your letter. It made my day!!! Hopefully by now you have received the package with the recording your mom had made for you. We use to do that when Uncle Bobby was in Viet Nam. Everyone use to gather, cook and make an event of it when he'd send his tapes back home for everyone to listen to. He didn't have time to write so many letters to all the family, so recordings were his way to communicate. I cannot believe who the first three people are on the tapes. ONLY YOUR MOTHER would have done that. I think it was just toooo funny. I hope this message finds you healthy and safe. We live to hear from you Mom that you've called or emailed her. Everyone is doing fine. Meemaw is in Indiana w/the Nuns!!!Cam and Collin have to work this weekend - Labor Day - last big holiday weekend - should keep them out of trouble. Just a FYI for the 1-1/508th Bravo folks: My son just called..we got to talk about a half hour (2 14 minute calls) it is about 2:30 a.m. there. He said he was able to get two days of R&R--just meaning a break away and back to base and then able to use the phone etc.. they are downrange from Kirkuk. He sounded good and said everything is ok--the platoon is great. He of course had a wish list of some specific DVD's & CD's. I had sent him a camcorder. He received that ok and is having a good time with that to send tapes back home. Sounds like when they up and move like they just did getting the basic essentials up and running for the troops is more of a priority each time. And he also is getting my emails from the bcompany1508@yahoo.com address. He likes that, he gets them usually the day after they are sent out, so that is good to know! Sounds like the packages are getting there about a week to 9 days. Also he said when it gets down to 90 at night with a little breeze it is almost chilly!! Sounded in good spirits--things seems to be calm again in his area. Hope this helps anyone who has not heard from theirs who is in his platton. He said they are rotating them for a R&R break. cbf

173rd ABN BGD 2-C 2/503rd INF Just received 2 cameras from my son PFC Richard Rowell. We 'bout broke the doors down at Walmart in such a rush to get them developed. The pictures are beautiful!! In the hours of early day, before the sun awakes and breaks light on my world of worry...I contemplate all that this war is. I weigh it's pros and cons as if each were single grains of the sand he spends his days in. They stack up, and as if the hands of time stopped turning I know it does not matter which side truth lies on. It will be 7 months more of worry, waiting, sleepless nights, tiresome days, of praying not to recieve a visitor that would throw me into a nightmare from which I would never escape! No one really knows the depth of love, until the chance of its loss presents itself. Time taunting me like a schoolyard bully. Only time does not want money, it steals something more valuable than that. It steals the moments that will never be regained, and in life I have learned it is the most precious measure of our time on this earth. I went and gave my heart away, and now it stands beating in the chest of a man thousands of miles from me. I invited love in as a friend long lost, but it was taken and locked away in the sands of Iraq. A place void of peace, that I shall not likely ever see. My heart still beats, ever faster..ticking away the seconds until the sands are memories and my love, he returns to me.

Are the yahoo accounts for sending messages to the 1-508th no longer working? I sent a message last week to hhccompany1508@yahoo.com and got a confirmation that it was correct. Since then I've had no such confirmation and today the email was returned to me, stating that the account does not exist on yahoo. I even went back and copied the address from the first email I sent out. If anyone has any idea about this, please reply to this message board. Thanks!

Hi, this is in reguards to the SPAM Mail. I also have been receiving a lot of spam mail which does in fact have the SoBig Worm attached to it. Yet, I have not used the 1/508th e-mail address to e-mail my husband, so I do not think you all are getting the spam from e-mailing your sons or husbands with that address. I even got an e-mail yesterday with the return e-mail address of AFNEUROPE.NET. I did visit that site though. Most of the spam mail is coming from people I don't know. As far as who set up those e-mail accounts for the 1/508th, I can not tell you. I know it was put out thru the FRG's here in Italy that you could use that to e-mail your husbands and sons, so I know those address are legit. I can almost assure you that it is not the people running those address who are sending you spam mail. I have read that a lot of computers have been affected by this virus and people may be getting your address some how by websites you visit (i.e. the afneurope one I got). I'm not sure, but it is kind of weird. I hope this helps relieve some of your minds about e-mailing your sons or husbands in Iraq. I too sent an email and got all kinds of unsolicited mail. I was a little concerned and warned others to use caution (like opening a separate email address) because I thought it might be some kind of a scam. I have since learned more about this sobig (?) worm virus that is invading emails and have concluded the military email address had nothing to do with it. I have lots of friends and co-workers who are also being invaded with spam and they have never heard of the 173rd, nor have they received any emails from me, so it was impossible for them to get infected from me. From what I understand, it will not ruin or crash your files, it is simply a nuisance because it fills up your mailbox with garbage that needs to be deleted. So I would urge everyone to go ahead and email your loved one at the addresses that were provided because I have heard they are getting those message. They are also given the opportunity to handwrite a response which in turn will be typed and sent back to you via email. Make sure you include your email address within the message in the event your soldier doesn't have it or doesn't remember it. The soldier responsible for performing this kind deed -- bless his heart -- contacted my sister and confirmed that the messages are being delivered. A big round of applause to him.

My question is more or less the same. I sent 2 emails to that bcompany1508 address and now I am getting lots and lots and lots and lots of weird emails with attachment usually from people that I dont know. Tonight I got one of those with the address of a girl that I know has a boyfriend in the 173rd. She did not send that to me...that e-mail was sent from somebody else with her address. Is it a virus or what's exactly happening? OK...I don't know anything about computers, but if anybody does maybe they could help or if there's anybody we should contact/inform about this... like the people that set up these acompany/bcompany addresses....I really don't know :( Well...thank you in advance and to all our soldiers out there in Iraq - you guys stay strong. Nothing like a week's worth of bedrest to make the house look like a a slum!! (Not really) Christian stopped in on his way back to school. He & Gina just got back from NY City. He put in the remaining plants & mulch for me so I slipped him a feww dollars. He won't just sit & visit. He always wants to work in the yard. He loves my gardens. Since I was sick & couldn't finish the planting, he did it for me. I cried when he left because he reminds me of you & Jason....HEY! Wait a minute - he stopped in & did gardening work - you & Jason don't do that! (HA!) Well, he still reminds me of my sons! His car died on the way back to U of I so Gary had to come up & get him. I only read a tiny blurb on CNN & FOX about some skirmish in Kirkuk - but they didn't give any details or report. I watched for 2 hours!! NOTHING! Anyway, I figured the best thing I could do was pray for you & your buddies, so that's what I did...& we all continue to do that everyday. I have to go back to work now - PLEASE CALL!! I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of SPC. Craig Ivory. I, too, have lost my brother and it hust hurts to know that someone else is going through the same thing myself and my family are. As hard as it was for me to attend my brothers funeral. I don't think I could have made it to your son's. It would just hit me like a ton of bricks again and I just need to pull myself back together. Don't think for one moment that I wasn't thinking about you. As I was all day and it was hard b/c it was one week saturday that we had my bro's service. I somehow had this warm feeling in my heart knowing that yoru son is with my bro. I'm sure that my brother is enjoying his company and your's is enjoying his. I'm just taking one day at a time and to tell you the truth that is hard in itself. I'm just praying so hard everyday for the 173rd family. It feel so great to be apart of it. I had a fun weekend. on saturday one of my buddies from high school got back from ait and he's in my unit. i showed him around most of the day then in the afternoon we went reppelling. it had been too long. i burned my guide hand because i was holding onto the roap too tight on the way down. and too put a perfectly painful twist on the situation i had to tie my swiss seat EXTRA tight so that i would have enough rope to tight all the knots. im still feeling it. then on sunday we had family day. i brought mom and the boys. i wanted brandy to be there but she had been out too late the night before. i spent a lot of the day talking to all my buddies and getting to know the people i didn't know. it was kinda funny because i was about the only person who brought their mother. but there was no one else to bring. later in the afternoon we went to the pool and did some sibling bonding. we wrestled around a lot in the water. we actually got put in time out for head dunking. the boys say the reason i got out earlier is because the life guard like me. but i don't know he was a little too young. well hey i hope to hear from you soon. if you have to have your mom send me a message even if it is just hi. your friend schoen

I talked to my son Pfc Brian Bayer 3rd Platoon A Co. 1st 508th this morning. He said two weeks ago they ambushed and took out the bad guys who were ambushing them. Haven't been shot at since. GOOD GOIN GUYS!!!. Chocolate is melted goo when it arrives, but they manage to scrape it off the wrappers. His aunt Lois sent him a green inflatable pillow that works well and packs flat in his pack. He hasn't tried the neck cooling scarf, but will soon. Says he's getting plenty of water and staying hydrated. He's lost weight but hasn't been injured or wounded. SKY SOLDIERS RULE!! Wingdad

My son is SSgt. Paul Wiseman (74th LRS, 173rd)and HOORAY!! HOORAY!! Paul called last night at midnight. Have not heard his precious voice in several months so was so happy and relieved. SPC Cesar Meza, 173rd CSC. Got your email yesterday. I remember that "kid at christmas" feeling. I have it now, just awaiting the day when I see you again. I will be looking for the package, and Sierra's note. Thank you for telling me about Craig's memorial. He was a good guy, pure Texas bull-riding cowboy, a good medic and my prayers are with his family and the soldiers of the 173rd. Brandy emailed me the recent pictures of little Cesar. He is so handsome! Penny and Roger went to PA to see T and the new baby, took their camera so you should be getting pictures of your new niece soon. Going to play volleyball today, it's kind of a regular Sunday afternoon thing. Of course, I look like a patchwork quilt with the sun in different shades all over. Trying to keep busy so the time will pass quickly, counting down the days till you are back home. Just remember, there is a lot of love and prayer coming at you from the states.

To Family Members of the 1-508/b company/2plt Just got a call from my son 2Lt Brian Clymer. It was 2:30am EST in the States but 10:30am in Iraq. The phone connection was not great but sound quality isn't important !! Though short, it was wonderful to hear his voice. He said everyone was doing well. The platoon duties there might be most accurately described as admistrative and police work. There has been an increase in activity lately as there had been some local infighting between local group but not hostilities toward the American troops. He also said that the message system mentioned of email attached to food deliveries doesn't work for his platoon because they are so cut off from the main battalion.

Just a bit of info about the previous post. Powdered mixes such as Cell-tech are meant to help build muscle. This might be a good thing considering the soldiers have lost weight, however it dehydrates your body. I was going to send my husband some, he is in the 2/503, but he told me they were not allowed to have it, since it is so hot right now. If you do want to send your soldiers something to help with weight gain, you can go to any nutrition center such as GNC and purchase a "Calorie drink mix." It increases their calorie intake. To help build their muscles without dehydrating them, you can get them protein bars or protein shakes. I just wanted to make everyone aware of the dangers of sending these drink mixes.
