Roscoe Thompson pased March 12, 2007 due to Hypertensive Cardiovascular Disease. He was Company B 2d Battalion (173 Airborne) 503d Infantry. He was a Sergeant. He is buried in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetary in Maryland. Obiturary reads: Roscoe C. Thompson, son of the late Reola R. Thompson and Ralph Thompson, was born on September 2, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life to be with God on March 12, 2007. After graduating from Douglas High School in 1964 he attended the Community College of Baltimore, and also Coppin State University. Entrance into the Armed Forces occurred in 1966. Roscoe served in the Vietnam War (173D Airborne Brigade) receiving many medals of Honor: - Bronze Star Medal (For Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces) - Air Medal (For Meritorious Achievement while participating in Aerial Flight) - Army Commendation Medal (For Meritorious Achievement in the Republic of Vietnam) In 1972 he received an Honorable Discharge from the Armed Forces. Roscoe loved to speak with people, so after his military career he held several sales and marketing positions; working for such companies as Kraft Foods, Merrell Laboratories, and Samsonite Corporation. After the sales and marketing careers Roscoe was employed by the Social Security Administration for numerous years as a Development Support Examiner. He eventually retired from the Social Security Administration in June 2002. On May 21, 1990 Roscoe accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and loved the Lord with all his heart. Roscoe touched many lives in so many different ways. He enjoyed speaking with the elderly; ensuring they were doing fine and providing any needs they may have. He enjoyed meeting the guys for morning coffee at Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds. He hated to miss his morning walks in the mall, and never interrupt him during a good movie “FLICK” (as Roscoe called them). He had a special fondness for the youth (especially his younger family members) and did whatever he could to help fulfill their dreams. He will be truly missed. Roscoe was preceded in death by both parents and his sister, Deborah G. Cooper. He leaves to mourn his former wife and lifelong friend, Annie Thompson, three stepchildren, Georgette Kiser, Anthony and Michael Kiser; two aunts, Gladys Watkins and Arlene Robinson; three uncles, Hubert and Samuel Robinson; Roman Glenn Thompson and a host of other relatives and friends.

Does anyone remember Doc Zimmerman, C/2/503rd Jan 69 to Jan 70? He was from St. Louis. How about an MP at English in early 69, I believe he was nicknamed "Broderick Crawford" after the TV series cop. He was known for trying to catch us tippin' the wire at English. He was also known for gettin the ---- kicked out of him when he finally caught somebody! Word was he tripped running down the hill and couldn't get up. How about CSM Hodge? Need I say more? How about the name of the FSB that had some Donut Dollies on it in the spring of 69 when D/2 was airlifted in from the boonies? Heavy fog that night. Had to keep rolling frags off the cliff, just in case! Heh, you gotta remember some of the fun stuff too...!

John Butler, We served together in Delta company in ’69. I have copies of various promotion and award orders with our names on them. I truly wish I could say that I remember you, but I too have difficulty with names and faces. I was Lt. Potts (Potteiger) rto for awhile. The CO was Capt. Grimshaw. There was Rabbit, Squirrel,(I met them at the Daytona reunion), Sugar Bear Johnson, Lifer Lyles, Bird, Doc Muller, Battle, and Brown, Metzler, Dietz to name a few. It sounds as if you were hit hard? Perhaps it was when Lt. Sigholtz died. I wasn’t in the field at that time and don’t know who all were hit. I also have a company roster of those who served with us for a time. I could send copies of what I have if you don’t mind sending your mailing address? John Nichols

I really don't know where to start, as I just discovered this web-site. I arrived in country late December 1966. Was at the replacement depot in Bien Hoa just as they were preparing for the jump. I was assinged to HQ CO. 2/503 when the jump was made. I spent my first 3 months in HQ CO. COMMO PLATOON. Later they were forming a new line company ( Delta company )where I was re-assinged as commo sgt. My first operation was Junction City with the 2nd Bat. all the way to Hill 875. After 875 I spent a few weeks in Cam-Ranh Bay. I caught up with my unit in Pleiku then back to the Dak To highlands. Early Janurary 1968 I was called to the CP while out on operation. Was told to drop my ruk-sack and on the last chopper out. I have had bad feelings not being able to say good-bye to so many. Would love to hear from anyone, after all these years.

I have found 3 journals written by Cpt. Larry M. Spence Fourth Battalion airborne. These were written while in Vietnam during 1969-1970. I am sure he or his family would like to have them back. If anyone knows of his whereabouts please have him email me at brantastic@hotmail.com and put "journals" in the subject line. (So I will know who it is). Thank you in advance for any help you can give me in returning his property. Sincerely, Barbara Merritt

As a proud member of the 173rd airborne who had the privledge of serving under General William Westmorland I wonder if anyone had information about the funeral. I always felt he was one of the greatest individuals I have ever known. I remember him coming to an operational site remembering many troopers he served with in the past and checking the setup of the 50 cal machine guns from outside the perimeter. He asked me many pointed questions about malarial drugs immersion foot fungal infections and sincerly wanted the honest input of a battalion surgeon who went to the feild with the troops. I tried many times to go to the reunions with the chaplins assistant who ended up in Milton WV with me his name was Stan Abrahms his sopn went to the Naval Acadamy and became a Naval pilot.

Looking to make contact with "Sky Soldiers" that served with B 2/503 on May 6th,1968. I was a newly assigned medic when Bravo Company made contact with the NVA on the 6th. I treated a Lt. that was shot in the stomach and a "Sky Soldier" that was hit with a rather large fragment from in-coming artillery rounds to the hand, two fingers where mainly affected. I believe both of these guys made it, but not sure. This was before, in close air support, the USAF, dropped a 750 Lb. bomb on our perimeter, needless to say that ruined our whole day. Would like to hear from those "Sky Soldiers", I am attending the reunion at Daytona Beach this year, and would love to meet up with any Bravo Bulls. P.S. since we had some additional people attached to us that day, I believe they where from the 1/50th Mech, one of the guys that I am looking for might have been with that unit. Here's hoping to hear from someone. AIRBORNE.
